Meet Kandice Pritchard-Harmon | U.S. Army Dental Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kandice Pritchard-Harmon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kandice, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking from my perspective is touch and go. Either you succeed and achieve a learning experience or fail and achieve a learning experience. It can either be a win-win or a lose-lose. The deciding factor is you. Taking risks in my life and career gave me the courage to fight for myself and others. I am proud as a human to even have the right to take risks, no matter the outcome.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a specialist in dentistry in the U.S. Army for five years. Nevertheless I actually have had a lot of chances to broaden my horizons while serving in the Army. I gained the privilege to speak for the concerns of the Installation’s single soldiers, single parents, and unaccompanied soldiers to the base’s highest senior commands since I was recently promoted to the position of president of Fort Cavazos’ Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program. In addition, I founded the Nathaniel L. Pritchard Memorial Scholarship program, which commemorates and honors my late brother through providing resources and financial assistance to young adults who were formerly in foster care in the state of Georgia and require funding to cover their direct educational expenses at colleges and universities. These were not trivial tasks; they demanded a great deal of power and determination, and I had a lot to prove to both myself and other people. As usual, this would need a great deal of work and effort. However, I have discovered that if you are not prepared to fight for yourself, then no one else will. And if there’s one thing I really want the world to know, it’s that when we fight for something good and try to make it better, there will be people who say “no,” put you down, and chastise you. Never give in to pressure from others to limit your abilities.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first place I would take a best friend who was spending the weekend in the Killeen area is Zaxby’s. Because nothing compares to hot, flavorful, and freshly made fried chicken. After that, we would spend a night out in Austin, visiting Barbarella and having a party on the terrace. I’ll take her to the best shopping in Round Rock the next morning at the premium outlet. Lastly, to appreciate Texas’s natural splendor, we would go on a nature hike at Chalk Ridge Falls in Belton.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my little brother, Nathaniel Pritchard, whose life was taken away this past Spring.
