We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamille Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamille, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Audrey Hepburn once said, “Nothing is impossible; the word itself says ‘I’m possible.'” In my senior year of high school, my guidance counselor told me I was dreaming of being a black girl and that I needed to be realistic. That same day, I came across Audrey’s quote, and I not only say it, but I live by it. The quote simply says that it is okay to dream big because your dreams could soon be your reality, which I love about it the most. Nothing is impossible; as long as you have dedication and drive, you can literally do anything you want to do. The only thing getting in the way of your success and making things “impossible” is yourself.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As I take this moment to think about my proudest and most significant achievements, yes, those moments are exciting. However, I can’t help to be excited about growth. I’m so ready to grow with each and everyone one of my businesses. I’m prepared to see the smiles on the faces of everyone who has supported me so far.
When I think about where I am today, all glory goes to God as a businesswoman. In the beginning, it was hard, mainly because I had no support besides my husband. So, in a way, I felt like a complete failure. I cried to my husband a lot about it, and he would always say, “you got this; everybody doesn’t want to see you win, and that’s okay. As long as I am here, you’ll always have support.” I took his words and applied them daily. I kept going until people finally gave me a chance.
As my 5th business anniversary approach this year, I’ve learned that your biggest supporters do not know you. Therefore, do not advertise and promote to your friends and family. Your family and friends are not the ones buying your product(s). Another lesson I have learned is that everyone will not like your products. So, out of one million positive reviews, don’t let those 1-5 negative reviews tear you down.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite things to do are shop and eat, which is something I would do in any state. As long as the vibe is good and there is an excellent shopping mall nearby, I highly recommend it. I love jazz music and poetry, so those would be my type of hang-out spots for nightlife.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Outside of God and my husband, I want to genuinely shoutout everyone who has supported me for 4.5 years. If you have ever liked, shared, commented, or recommended my business to people, thank you! It is a blessing that I still have genuine support, especially from those I have never even met. I am beyond thankful and blessed. Being a young black entrepreneur, wife, mom, and full-time college student is challenging. So to have people rooting for you, even though some days you’re not even rooting for yourself, is fantastic. So, thank you, everyone!
