We had the good fortune of connecting with Kalah – Abena Byrd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kalah – Abena, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I think the most important thing I’ve done as a parent for my children is to be kind, show love and be creative. Do my art and share my creativity with them

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I graduated from Tuskegee University with a B.S. in Animal, Poultry and Veterinary Sciences. I’ve had to privilege to work at other USG institutions.

I did a summer internship at Walt Disney World as a Conservation Education Presenter. That was truly a magical experience. I’m a huge Disney fan.

I currently work as a biosafety specialist in higher education. I’ve been a biosafety specialist for 5 years.

I love dance deeply but I have a love for science as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Oooo I love this question!

Breakfast at Home Grown/ Snooze / Flying Biscuit / Another Broken Egg ooo R Thomas and of course Waffle House! 😉

Lunch: hmm this is a hard one. I love food and there are still restaurants that I want to visit. I’ll have to get back to you on this one.

Dinner: hmm Howell’s is pretty yummy. / Tulum is also very good. Oh one of my favorites for drinks and dinner: Cooks and Soldiers! So yummy. Everything on the menu is delicious but the smoked mushrooms and market fish are top notch.
Two Urban Licks and Atlanta Fish Market are delicious.

I’m not much of a party person but when I feel like dancing I go to The Drunken Unicorn. It’s an underground dance club so no dress code or heels. It give me house party vibes. I would also take them to Rock Steady. I’ve never been would but I would love to experience it with close friends. Ponce City Market has a great roof top area. Wonderful views, drinks, food and carnival style games.
