We had the good fortune of connecting with Kache’ the Rockstar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kache’, how do you think about risk?
I think about risks more so in a positive light. I believe that risk-taking helps you grow and get out of your comfort zone. I also believe that in order to take certain risks you have to have strong belief within yourself. For example, me moving to ATL was a huge risk. I moved here with little to nothing and I didn’t have anything stable. I just believed in myself highly enough to know that I can hustle my way to the top or wherever I wanted to go.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a licensed master cosmetologist who specializes in extensions, weaves, and wigs. I am most proud of the magic that I can create when doing hair. It’s magic in the craft and it’s a magical moment when my clients love their transformations. These moments helped build my clientele from zero to a number I can’t count. It was not easy getting here. I moved to ATL from Baltimore with about $500 to my name and I didn’t have an established career. I knew I had a few talents that might take me somewhere, but no real plan. To overcome my challenges, I had to get out and meet people. I learned that your network determines your net worth. So I attended events, classes and I even got a job for 3 months to meet people. Everywhere I went I told people I do hair. Also, I’ve learned to just keep going. It’s okay to take breaks, but do not stop until you get everything you came for. I want the world to know that everything I put my name on I give blood, sweat, and tears. That applies to each client’s service, to developing my salon, and to the future businesses I plan to have.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best thing to do here in ATL is to explore all the art events, restaurants, clubs and lounges. I would take them to brunch for bottomless mimosas at BQE or Fin and Feathers. Then we would enjoy a fun time at the rooftop at Ponce City Market and accidentally go to Bar Vegan for a quick turn up. And of course we have to hit a hookah lounge. We would hit up Cru on Peters Street then from there go to a random event found on Eventbrite. For the late evening fun, we could get dressed real nice to go to Gold Room.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow! I would like to give credit to my mother, Kesha, of course. She has always supported me and pushed me to become my best self. I would also like to give recognition to the higher power for putting me in position to meet so many inspiring people throughout my journey and for giving me strength and courage when I felt down or defeated.
