We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Ziadeh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
This question was the million-dollar question in 2020. Why? Because my work with partners and strategic alliances came to a halt. In May 2020, six months’ worth of in-person workshops with global leaders and an innovative coaching program for frontline leaders came to a halt.
My head filled with questions. Should I keep going? Should I give up? Will organizations and leaders have the bandwidth to focus on leadership development during this crisis? My calls with leaders told me that they needed support but struggled to find the time and energy. Since in-person workshops were gone, what did virtual excellence look like in my client’s eyes? Honestly, I wondered, is it worth the effort, or should I give up?’
The answer to keep going took time, skill upgrades, and a shift in my business model. I became a DDI Licensed Consultant, which enabled me to add thirty-six competency-based courses to my portfolio. Courses essential to developing frontline leaders and individual contributors. I have no regrets about the decision I made, even though the business is not back to pre-COVID levels. Passion for the work I do is fueling me forward. I know good things will continue to happen.
What should our readers know about your business?
Results on Purpose Is a boutique leadership development firm that offers customizable leadership programs, executive coaching, and interactive training workshops designed to unlock potential, harness creative energy, and enhance leadership skills. We partner with leaders of learning, rising stars, and top talent eager to rise up, spark growth, and lead at the top of their game. What sets us apart? Our inside out approach to accelerate performance. 2020 was tough! Business leaders faced an endless barrage of challenges, many but not all brought on by COVID.
The leaders who rose to the top were the ones who embraced uncertainty, adapted, changed, and conquered new skills. How? In part because their organizations recognized the value of a human-centered approach and invested in leadership development. Success is available to those who are willing to work for it. ROI Coaching and Interaction Management® Courses are two different solutions that build leadership capabilities, increase employee engagement, and reduce turnover. ROI Coaching creates expanded thinking, increased motivation, and behavioral changes in the leader. The demand for exceptional leadership is increasing. Coaching is a positive way to develop and retain an organization’s top talent.
Our ROI Coaching engagement is an investment for the leader and the organization. Engagements last four, six, or nine months, depending on the goals. Transformational processes include an emotional intelligence assessment, a life story interview, mental models identification, 36O-degree feedback.
DDI Interaction Management Courses® are leadership courses built on science. There are thirty-six workshops rooted in psychology designed to help leaders think, act, and lead differently. At the core of the Interaction Workshops are the “Interaction Essentials.” Behaviors to meet the personal or human needs in every interaction and the practical needs, which are business goals or objectives. Research and my personal experience training and coaching leaders have proved the importance of these skills. When an organization asks me to coach a leader, it is almost always because of challenges associated with their interpersonal communication style.
How did I get to where I am today? There were stepping stones and people lighting the path. The first stone was laid in 1996 when I was at a crossroads personally and professionally. I was stuck. I was blessed to have Juanita Parsons light the path to self-discovery through Neuro-Linguistic Programming. (NLP) NLP is the study of how you think, speak, and behave. This work accelerated my growth as a leader, improved my relationships, and opened doors to a career in learning and development at a major airline. I was fortunate to work for an organization that believed strong, effective leadership is integral to individual and company-wide success. I spent nine years honing my skills as a facilitator, coach, and consultant with that airline. The last stone was laid In 2006. The airline filed Chapter 11, which impacted my salary, benefits, and ended most leadership development programs.
I was willing to accept the losses in pay and benefits that came with restructuring, but I was unwilling to lose my soul. I opened my business in 2007 to feed the fire in me to train, coach, mentor, and develop leaders.
I’m most proud of the collaborative partnerships and alliances that enabled me to expand the scope and reach of my work. I’m a certified trainer or a master trainer with best-in-class leadership development and training organizations. These alliances allowed me to work with thousands of leaders in a variety of industries: hospitality, healthcare, entertainment, financial services, technology, and transportation within Fortune 50 and Fortune 500 companies.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start the day moving! My first pick is the Atlanta Botanical Garden. It’s great no matter what time of year, but especially beautiful in the spring and fall. Perhaps we’d look at the classes and workshops offered for a bit of learning. Afterward, it would be nice to grab a bite at Longleaf Restaurant or Joy Café, a short drive away. With advanced planning and a world free of COVID, we could enjoy dinner out and some live entertainment that evening. Dinner at Pasta da Pulcinella so I could enjoy my favorite dish, Tortelli di Mele. There are plenty of ways to entertain my friends. If they want sports, we can enjoy watching the Falcons or Atlanta United play at the Mercedes Benz Stadium. Or, enjoy a play at the Fabulous Fox Theater or the symphony at the Woodruff Arts Center.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I love this question and appreciate the opportunity to give these SHOUT OUTS! First and foremost is my husband, who is a model for leadership excellence. He is a master communicator, a fantastic listener, and my biggest supporter. Results On Purpose would never have happened without his encouragement every step of the way. I also want to recognize my sister, Susan Steinbrecher, who encouraged me to become a trainer in 1997. She was my role model, mentor, and biggest cheerleader. I would have to write a book to account for all the ways that Susan has impacted my career and my life. For now, I will say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
To my other siblings Pat, Betty, Ethel, Mike, and Jim in heaven. Thank you for role modeling excellence in your chosen fields. Mom and Dad, you too are in heaven. Thanks for giving me six talkative siblings. Without them, I might not have ever had a reason to learn “listening skills.” Thank you also for instilling the value of hard work in all of us. To Juanita Parsons, Dr.Dan Mitchel in heaven, and Linda Mitchel. I am forever changed because of the work I did in NLP with the three of you.
To the leaders who’ve trusted me to coach, train, mentor, and guide them on their personal and professional journeys. Thank you for letting me walk beside you. My last SHOUT OUT is to one particular leader, Zack Hamilton. It has been fun to watch you soar to new heights. Loyalty, fierce determination, and excellence are some of your endearing qualities. Thank you for showing me how to channel my inner “winning” to “keep going” in 2020. Without your technology mentoring and training, I might not have had the courage to keep going.
