Meet Julia Rae | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Rae and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Life itself is a risk. There is never a guaranteed outcome. It’s easy to be scared of taking a risk on something but I think it’s exciting. In a way, even if it doesn’t work out how you thought it would, it will always work out as it should. Every first step into something new is a risk. But if you didn’t take it you’d never know.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been a creative. Whether it was expression through clothes, photo, music, etc. I have exhausted every outlet for my creative expression. I’m the type of person who can’t stick to the same thing for too long. I jump from here to there, always trying to learn a new skill. Photography has stuck with me the most. However, I recently got into music with my best friend Bryson Eller. We went into the studio with our friends Zach Epps and Helayna Wicker just for some fun. In the end we wrote ‘I don’t want you back’. We decided to release it because we loved it so much. My favorite part was getting to decide all of the visuals for it. With help from another good friend, Will Dodgen, we got to mess around and create a super fun video for it. I think for me I remind myself that I don’t need to take myself too seriously with art. It’s always changing and so am I. I’ll float around trying to do and learn new things but art is always the backbone in my life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I tend to stick to my side of town when it comes to having friends come to visit. Of course we would have to hit up a few coffee shops because that’s a staple thing to do. I always recommend everyone tries out my favorite restaurant, Spoon. It’s Thai food that I will never get sick of!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To everyone that inspires me and encourages me to keep pushing forward in my art – Jud Harris, Bryson Eller, James Tyler Wallace, Isabelle Digiulio, Caylee Robillard. The list goes on.
