We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Blair and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It all started when a family friend asked me to do the florals for their wedding. I was so honored to be entrusted with such a large task. Shortly after, another family friend asked me and the rest is history. After a year in, I knew it was the real deal so I got my business license. I had not necessarily set out to start my own business, but my dream job sort of fell in my lap.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a 4 on the enneagram, setting myself apart from other florists has always been a big priority for me. I very much want to be known as the funky florist, a risk taker, someone who isn’t afraid to be different. I quickly realized that it would be difficult to stand out, as clients were bringing me trendy wedding styles they found on pinterest. However, overtime, as I’ve built my portfolio, I’ve noticed more people coming to me for my style. It has taken a few years to get to this point, but I am finally starting to feel like I have a brand that people want.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would go to Dancing Goats Coffee by Ponce, get matching tattoos at Kingdom Tattoo, and eat dinner at Park Tavern. Then, we’d take a stroll through Piedmont Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have been my number 1 support from the very beginning. They’ve been so proud of me doing what I love and always encouraged me to keep going. Even when I decided to not continue with college and pursue florals full time, they rallied behind me and supported my decision. Huge shoutout to Kim and Dwight!
