Meet Judah Anu El | CEO / Certified Firearms Instructor & Training Counselor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Judah Anu El and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Judah, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was first introduced to firearms by my grandmother at a young age. It wasn’t until my 30’s I was inspired by a friend and teacher Mike Smith to really start training and developing my knowledge. After training at an outdoor range vs shooting at an indoor range I was given a whole new perspective on firearms. Those experiences exposed the shortcomings of going to the indoor range and shooting at a still target vs actually training outdoors. The outdoor training sessions allowed me to understand the importance of shooting in different situations which may not be ideal. I realized you can’t pick the day you may be involved in a self-defense situation so you must train in a variety of ways to ensure you can operate your weapon efficiently under stress. This motivated me to increase my knowledge about firearms in general. I found the deeper I went into the second amendment community I quickly saw it was not a lot of people that I could relate to or that looked like me. Most places I visited where not welcoming, extremely outdated, and really did not seem to want my business. Unfortunately, it was bad experience after bad experience, and it became apparent there was a void that needed to be filled.

I am a polymath by nature, so it was only fitting for me to provide a solution. This pushed me to partner with the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) and become a Certified Firearms Instructor & Training Counselor. Doing this has allowed me to provide a positive experience for people like myself with no prior military or law enforcement background interested in the second amendment community. I have been able to instruct my family as well as others on firearm education and show them you can safely and responsibly own and operate firearms as civilians. The second amendment is extremely important to the foundation of this country, and I truly believe Americans should be able to exercise that right.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My belief in the constitution guided my decision to form I AM TACTICAL, a company by civilians dedicated to training and development for real world scenarios. I pride myself knowing my students walk away better equipped to handle situations while practicing restraint and avoidance above all. I believe education on all the aspects of defensive shooting is necessary for a student to understand the responsibility of gun ownership. An armed community is a safe and polite community so I believe the more educated and responsible gun owners we have, the safer our communities will become.

I AM TACTICAL was created to show people how to safely operate their weapon and progress as a shooter. My family has played a huge role in my decision to grow the company. This has allowed me to teach my wife and children fundamental skills they can pass on to make their lives safer. As a father and a husband, it is my duty to ensure my family can defend themselves if necessary and I take my families safety very seriously, so we train to ensure we are at our best at all times.

We tailor our training to the student. We have worked with people from all levels from advance to first time shooters. Children and families are always welcome. We don’t believe in accidents only negligence. We believe properly educating more people will reduce unintended injuries and deaths. As an instructor I have been able to see the need for quality training and I AM TACTICAL was created to fill that void.

I am most proud of being able to do what I love with my family. There is no better feeling then to see your family progress with skills you helped them acquire. I truly enjoy watching my students grow and overcome adversity.

My current business position comes from many previous years in management and finally deciding I needed to invest in myself the same way I had other people’s companies. I finally understood what it meant to hustle for your last name and was committed to make it happen. I have experienced many challenges from what are quality brands of weapons to purchase, to how to properly instruct a course. They all came with many lessons learned but the one thing that remains constant is to always be a student. Never stop learning, never stop finding ways to improve, you can always grow and be better. As business owners, as teachers, as family members, as friends we can always do and be better. That has allowed me to be successful even through mistakes. I learn from every experience good or bad and make it a priority to adapt the business to accommodate growth opportunities. One of the most impactful lessons I learned was to stay positive and project your positive energy into situations and people. Staying humble and confident will get you very far in anything you do. As an entrepreneur you have to learn to utilize your team and delegate to ensure the business is running efficiently, you can’t do everything yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places is the Chattooga River. The scenery is magical, and you are truly able to connect with nature. The Etowah Indian Mounds are a very special place. They represent the original people who controlled the land prior to colonization. The city of Atlanta is a great place to hang out and interact with various people from all walks of life. Blue ridge mountain is another peaceful majestic location to interact with nature. An outdoor gun range is a must on any trip to ensure our skills are sharp. I think some of the most fun and interesting places are ones that are the simplest and have the most history. I enjoy connecting with nature and the story behind the location.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This shoutout is dedicated to my Anu El tribe. My wife and children given me the drive and motivation to be better every day. I also have to give a shoutout to my grandmother Mrs. Evans without her teachings, love, and prayers I would not be the person I am today. For that I am forever grateful and blessed to have you all as a part of my journey.
