We had the good fortune of connecting with Joya Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joya, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Daniel Hayward said there are three states that must take place in every successful person. Those three states are confidence, motivation and focus.

Emotion is part of human nature. Whether to give up or keep going, is a natural question. There are some days you are going to be fired up and others you’re less motivated.

But never give up! I’ve never given up because I know, giving up is where failure lives. And I fear them both.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First in for most, thank you for this platform! I feel honored to be featured here and I love what you represent!

More about my art? Absolutely! Because I am a singer my canvas is sometimes the microphone and because I am a music business consultant, my canvas is often times a virtual coaching space or advisory space. And because I am the founder of a business, my canvas is sometimes the board room.

I am so blessed and I believe that sets me apart from the outset. But moreover, I am the first artist lead ecosystem of this kind so that’s super important to me.

I am most proud of persevering. The music industry is very challenging. I am very proud that I chose to follow that little voice inside of my head that said diversify your gifts! And that’s what I’m doing.

No it was not easy. But life is full of springs and valleys and business is no different. I’ve overcome the challenges by understanding that those challenges were par for the course. None of us will succeed without having failures behind us. It took a while, but through mentor ship and seeking advice from loving friends and family I think that has kept me on the right road. That and lots of prayer! Lol.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to relax. The journey is meant to be enjoyed. All of it 🙂 and the other important thing (amongst others) is that you cannot be successful in something, if you don’t understand how it works. You have to have knowledge of how your Sector works in order to advance.

What I want the world to know about my brand story is that I represent Artists in the truest sense. And that we are brilliant! We are not just the talent or just the painter or just the singer or just the illustrator. We are all of those things. And we choose now to compartmentalize all of the gifts we have been given and take ownership of our art. I represent those artists. I represent us all with pride.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would say, “ OK girl you might hate me by the end of this trip… Because you’re going to be so tired… But I love you anyway”

I would say she should stay at the epicurean or Atlanta luxury rentals for the week. I would say we should eat at the Betty and have drinks and cocktails at bar Margot.

We should go zip lining if the weather permits and we should also ride bikes along the beltway.

We should also go shopping at some of the best consignment places like labels or Alexis‘s closet.

And finally let’s go cycling or do infrared therapy.

Ohhhhh .. we absolutely have to go skating… Rollerskating and then we have to go to bar vegan or slutty vegan for a taste of Atlanta!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am going to dedicate this article to my daughter. When the friendship society was only a mere concept, she is the person—the first person that told me it was a phenomenal idea.
