We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Oredipe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, is there something you believe many others might not?
I could never fully agree with the idea that “something paid for is more valuable than something given for free.” As it pertains to my business, I initially offered my services for free. However, offering free services did not mean I didn’t value myself, my services, or my brand. I had spent years cultivating the skills and knowledge to be an adequate personal trainer. I led with compassion for my clients and used my passion and skills to train family and friends for free. When and if they showed further interest, I was happy to adjust my schedule in hopes to deliver quality service because I wanted to change people’s lives. I lived the cliché saying, “It’s not about the money,” and it truly wasn’t because I was always seeking to fulfill my purpose. In the beginning people would not show up to their sessions nor would they follow any of my nutritional advice. Although I found true value in what I was doing, I quickly realized if people don’t pay then they don’t value the product or service. As I’ve gotten wise over the years, and I reflect on life, my perspective on value has shifted. I recognize how culture and capitalism have influenced the way we see the world. Pricing psychology has conditioned us to assign value to products and services, but I know the most valuable aspects of life are free. For example, what is the price of a good friend? How much does love cost? Can we apply a price tag to our health and well -being? These features of life are priceless, yet they are the most valuable. I encourage all of us to take account of the priceless aspects of our lives and truly express gratitude.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a personal trainer I assist clients with properly defining and executing their fitness goals. Utilizing my knowledge and expertise I develop custom workouts that combine HIIT (high-intensity interval training) style training with circuit, resistance, plyometric, flexibility, and bodyweight training to challenge a wide range of clientele. I’ve been hired to create weight-loss, weight-gain, and nutritional coaching programs. I currently offer one-on-one, group, and virtual training sessions. I coach others on the proper use of gym equipment, the benefits gained from perfecting form and proper exercise execution. I motivate my clients to implement healthy habits into their lifestyles by encouraging the use of positive affirmations, setting meaningful purpose, and visualizing desired outcomes. I believe it’s a trainer’s responsibility to educate the client enough to inspire their own interpretation of a healthy lifestyle and continue educating themselves beyond my services.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were to show a best friend around town, we would have to start with a good place to eat. I love good food. As a vegan my first stop would have to be “Slutty Vegan” for their PLT sandwich: sweet jerk plantains with lettuce, tomato, and House made sauce on a vegan Hawaiian bun. Next, we would head over to the birth home of Martin Luther King Jr. to get in touch with our history and pay homage to his work. Lastly, we would head down to Centennial Park to ride SkyView Atlanta. Although I am afraid of heights, it’s a great view of the city and the perfect place to capture a selfie for the Gram.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my Parents Kim and Femi Oredipe. They inspire me by being living examples of good people. Through their own courage, diligence, and love despite all circumstances I aspire to be the best version of myself. Throughout my childhood they taught me valuable lessons which instilled the qualities necessary for me to become the man I am today. Their continued guidance and support throughout my journey have been a Godsend and I consider myself incredibly lucky.
