We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, why did you pursue a creative career?
This artistic “career” was less of something I chose, but it was assigned to me. It has been in my family for generations and God has gifted us all with musical talents. God has anointed us to be able to translate His word in a way that will reach people’s heart through sound. I have chosen to pursue this path because it is something God has given me to release, to grow the body of Christ.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The journey to artistry wasn’t an unusual one. Like many artists, I started off as a background vocalist for many artists, choirs, and churches in my area. I have been singing background for the past 3 years, traveling to different cities and sometimes states to sing. I was also able to do my very first live recording in 2023 for Gospel artist, Frank McGee. These opportunities allowed me to get my face out there and become someone who was sought after for tenor vocals.

While I am very grateful for these opportunities, it also brought about a challenge as a ventured into artistry. I always knew that I wasn’t going to stay in the background, but the difficult part was having to rebrand myself as an artist. This meant being wise with the background engagements I accepted and also utilizing my social media to market myself as a leader.
Through this, I learned how to value you myself and the gift God has given me, and that when God calls you to another level, then you must obey.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I had to shoutout anyone, it would be my family first. They’ve been by my side in every step of this journey, reminding me that the gift/sound I have is like no other. To hear that from them is everything for me, for they are the most important people in my life. I played my single for my family for the first time on Thanksgiving of 2023. Their response was all I needed. I often replay the video of their reactions whenever I need a little encouragement.

It would be a shame to not mention my producers, Ernest Tolbert & La Dell Abrams, for they have been a big motivation for me. Tolbert & Abrams have worked with legends like Cece Winans, John P. Kee, and Andrae Crouch just to name a couple. To know their musical resume, and still see that they can see something great in me means the world. I wouldn’t have chosen anyone else to do music with.
