We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I have found most successes to stem from a simple and consistent embrace of the uncomfortable. My productivity and creative clarity is at its height when I am pushing myself into difficult circumstances and scenarios. To this end, I begin every day with a cold shower, eat one meal a day, eat only meat, lift heavy things 3 times a week…Generally speaking, my habits are geared towards pushing myself towards doing things that are uncommon amongst even uncommon people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create and perform entire solo installation concert events utilizing sensory percussion and DMX lighting. Sensory percussion is a machine learning software that essentially turns drums into complex samplers, which in turn enables any musical or visual notion to be manifested through drumming. Around 4 years ago I was involved in a band called Summer Dregs wherein we created a DIY light show. This experience of building, soldering, and programming lights was a terrific bedrock for my solo work today. There are always technical problems to overcome in this line of work, but I have learned that everything has a fix, which has been great therapy.

My live performances are something very poignant to behold. In October, for the Valley Vibes Music and Arts Festival, I ran 500′ of LED tape through a forest and live triggered the trees. Each installation is unique to my environment and is something intensely programmed and designed to leave a lasting sensorial impression.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my bff to North Chickamauga Creek, the most majestic and pristine swimming and frolicking spot in my region.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to recognize the technical innovation of Sunhouse. This family run business created the software that enables the majority of my work these days. It’s inspirational to see an organic and immensely unique, game-changing modality that was born out of passion and creative drive.
