We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is like standing out on a ledge and when you look down, not being able to see the ground. At that moment you have to make a decision on whether to step off or not. So you ask yourself, “Am I satisfied with where I am standing right now?” If I take this step I could lose everything that I’ve worked so hard for up to this point. On the optimistic side, I could step out, take a temporary setback, and eventually be standing at a higher place later. I’m an optimist. On top of that, I strongly believe in myself. So I believe that if I do step off of that ledge and hit the bottom that I have the ability to get back to that same ledge again anyway, and maybe a better version of myself. So in my mind, am I really losing? Only if I don’t step off and try.

The first major risk in my career was deciding to leave the corporate work environment and become and entrepreneur. I had butterflies in my stomach for months thinking about it. After some consulting with some of the wiser people in my life and prayer, I took that step and have been in business 11 years now doing what I believe I am purposed to do.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
JDBS believes that restoration and longevity are top priorities in overall health and wellness. With massage therapy at our core, JDBS has the expertise and tools to support you with your wellness needs. We aim to support and accelerate your recovery process and reduce pain and discomfort to get you back to living, whether it be your daily routines or performing at the peak of your abilities. One thing that sets apart from other massage businesses is that we provide what we call, “All-Inclusive”, service. What this means is that services that you would usually pay an upcharge for at other businesses are already included in your purchase. Why? When you go to a doctor you tell the doctor your symptoms and he/she tells you what you need because you may have the knowledge to know. Same concept with us. Tell us your symptoms, we may do some test, and then we perform the necessary therapies to aid you to wellness.
Nothing about my journey has been easy. Unfortunately I learned a lot from trial and error. I did do some reading, took some classes and things, but the application sometimes isn’t as simple as a class makes it. I’ve had to build, tear down, and rebuild a few times. It can be stressful and discouraging, but I always believe I will reach my goals.
From those challenges one of the toughest lessons I’ve learned is that your timeline may not always play out as expected, and you have to be okay with that. Patience and perseverance will be tested, constantly. Stay focused on the finished result and realize that all progress, is still progress. Keep going!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s just say that you may be disappointed if I am your source for a week long extravaganza. I’m definitely an introvert and don’t get out much. However a few things that come to me quickly would be: MLK Historical Park, SkyView Atlanta (at night), Centennial Olympic Park, Ponce City Roof, Georgia Aquarium, and stroll through Little Five Points and find interesting places to hang and eat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I’d like to shoutout my Grandparents! Growing up there wasn’t one time that I would see them that they wouldn’t tell me, “You can be whatever it is you want to be if you just put your mind to it.” To this very day I can still hear them telling me that.

Secondly, my wife for holding me down in every way. For being supportive when times were hard and business was slow. For the encouragement at times that I almost shut everything down and went back to a normal job. Especially for understanding me as a person. Understanding that I have an entrepreneurial spirit and wouldn’t be happy doing anything else.

Finally I have to say thank you to everyone who has come to me as a client and trusted me to guide them in their health & wellness journey. Thank you for granting me the opportunity to make a difference in your lives and being supportive of my vision!
