We had the good fortune of connecting with JOSE CARLOS VELAYARSE and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JOSE CARLOS, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since I was a child I always drew and I liked art in all its expressions, music, theater, dance. But it was when I finished school that I decided to study art at the University without knowing what I was getting into, I believe that all human beings have the ability to communicate feelings, in my academic training I began to develop certain expressive communication skills through the compositions in a painting. And it is at that moment when I was aware that I had not made a mistake, art has known how to welcome me and has served me as a great impulse to continue living and understand what great motivations surround us on this planet. Even up to now I do not stop learning and keep exploring in my personal work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The artist’s life is a constant uncertainty, today you are at the top, another day you are at the bottom. I am convinced that discipline and perseverance are the key to achieve everything you set your mind to. The road is not easy, but that is precisely the most valuable thing about success. Many times I got tired of not getting what I was looking for as an artist, of not being recognized. But with time you learn to be patient and to recognize that everything you do with sincerity and passion will pay off at some point. We artists must know that until the day we die we always have something to learn.

I only hope that I will be remembered as that person who believed in his art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best thing about Vienna for me is walking and visualizing the street, among its beautiful architecture and many parks. The city has a very artistic energy. And in the evenings there are many bars with very cool atmospheres.

The city is very inspiring for creators, artists, poets, musicians.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all, my mother is a fundamental part of my success, she is the one who always supported me and who always accompanied me in my process when I was an art student. Now that I am married, my wife is an important part of my constant artistic creation, she has been able to accompany me and guide me on this path, and continues to do so. I believe that forming a great family team is important for any artist and his or her professional development.
