We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Von Eppinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always had a love for creating. As a teen and young adult, I struggled with how to pursue something I enjoyed while also supporting myself. So, I took a chance at starting my creative career in cosmetology. After having my second child, working full time while breastfeeding and late hours wasn’t an option for me. I started suffering from postpartum depression. I didn’t want to leave my son but I knew I had to do something for myself. I had made a few macrame earrings the year before and sold them around Christmas time. I figured, why not? So my dabbling in macrame began again and honestly, it was so therapeutic. Helping my depression while also letting me express myself through art? It’s a win win.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Macrame is such a saturated market. I try to keep my things unique. I tend to use a lot more color. Natural and beige wall hangings etc aren’t my personal style. I also like to combine Clay and macrame to create one of a kind pieces. I guess a lesson I’ve learned is to keep your art unique to you. Don’t try and be like other artists. You are you, and that attracts people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve only had my shop open for a little less than a year and I’ve been lucky to meet incredible artisans and shop owners along the way. Every single one of them has played a part. Every opportunity I’ve received was from someone mentioning my name, giving me a chance or sharing their experiences with me. And I owe them more than I can give! So thank you! But the biggest thank you is to my husband and kids. They put up with my macrame spread around the house, my weekends away and my lacking in keeping the laundry going. Yet, they are my biggest supporters.
