We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Quinn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I come from an entrepreneur family. While raising four boys, my mother built and currently runs one of the best preschools in the Midwest. My oldest brother is a extremely talented balloon entertainer who created his own business with that talent. And my second-oldest brother run his own marketing business. So for me, starting my own business wasn’t a question of “if” but “when.” Since I knew this early on, I started accumulating video production gear: Lights, C-Stands, Microphones, Cameras, etc. By my junior year of college, I was able to produce my own projects by using only my equipment. I continue to use my gear to this day, so I’m glad I made an investment early in my career because it’ll take me to where I want to be.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I was in college, I was working as a freelancer for a local cable company. I’d work my way to being a favorite with the production manager, so I was able to get steady work and consistent work as a replay specialist for live sporting events. This experience led me to Memphis, TN where I worked the 2021 WNIT Championships. After the event, I stayed in Memphis a little longer for a job interview at a production company called Forever Ready Productions. This is where I fell in love with story telling. I always loved making documentaries, but Forever Ready showed me how to approach sensitive stories and the trust people are giving us to tell their story in an authentic way. Most of our clients were non-profits and small businesses. I stayed in Memphis for another 16 months working on my craft, still freelancing whenever I had the chance. One day a very attractive opportunity came along and I had to jump on it. Video editor at Morgan Stanley in Atlanta. This opportunity placed me in a city where video production is booming. Since college, I wanted to live in Atlanta because of the market, and now I’m here.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d always have to treat people to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. Then we’d probably go into Midtown (assuming it’s warm) and go somewhere with a patio. I don’t have a specific spot yet just because I like how many options there are and can try somewhere new every time. However, the Beltline is always a safe bet.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Family is extremely important to me. Without my parents and brothers, I wouldn’t be who I am today. My parents have always supported me with this career path and my brothers have pushed me to continue to make better and better work. My motivation has to come from the hardest worker in my family which is my mom. She managed to raise four boys, build and runs a successful business, while being a wife to my dad. To be pulled in so many directions and still surpass everyone’s expectations on a day-to-day basis is amazing. I want to be able to take care of her the way she took care of me when the time comes.
