Meet Johnna Sabree | cosmetologist, mentor, entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnna Sabree and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Johnna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My imagination was always a way for me to escape what was going on in my childhood. I was always drawing, coloring, crafting, sewing etc. creating art because it came naturally to me, I got pregnant with my first son after dropping out of high school, college for fashion wasn’t an option. So I started doing hair because my grandma had a salon, it allowed me to be creative and quick make money

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I run a salon what I do is art and spiritual. I’ve always used creativity to get through life and my clients get so much more than hair services when they are in my space. Hair saved me early on but now I use hair and the community that I’ve built throughout my salon to empower women. I’ve evolved beyond trying to be the best stylist or stay on top of the trends. My focus is well-being now because women attach so much of their worth to their outward appearance. I want everyone that connects with me to know we are so much more than that! It has not been easy because I’ve had to learn everything about business on my own and with that I’ve had to develop as a woman, mother, wife, and leader.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that a knowledge of self is so important! We have to know our shortcomings, our deepest desires, and allow ourselves to sit in the pain of our past so that we can move forward freely. I didn’t realize how I was stopping my own growth. I didn’t embrace all of who I was for years. Everything I did was rooted in trying to survive, and after a while those behaviors stopped working.
I want the world to know that my brand is about female empowerment and sisterhood. I was the shy, insecure, depressed girl that always felt disliked, overlooked, I am the champion for that little girl in me, and other little girls in this world who as women look the part but deep within feel unworthy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely do a full spa day at my favorite place Island Spa. Get body scrubs, facials, yoni steams, and go sauna crazy!
We would go to philly and eat brunch at green eggs cafe and dinner at Buddakhan or Steak 48
Do some shopping at King of Prussia mall
And maybe take a ride to the Belmar beach Jersey shore…

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Persons: my father and grandparents! All entrepreneurs, the lived life on their terms. Seeing them run their own businesses made me feel like I could as well.
Book: The four agreements, that book simplified things about life and our existence.
Audio book: Homecoming- game changer! This book helped me address childhood traumas that I thought I had resolved. We don’t realize how much the younger versions of who we were are still running our lives
