Meet John T. Carmouche | Creative Director & Cultural Architect

We had the good fortune of connecting with John T. Carmouche and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John T., how do you think about risk?
“Take a risk or lose your chance.”
Most of the risks I’ve taken throughout my career and life have been influenced by that quote. There is no such thing as a coincidence to me. Everything happens for a reason at a specific moment. After a lot of trial and error, I’ve learned that trying to keep your overall goal in mind and trusting yourself will always work out. I don’t think I was prepared for most of the things I have experienced, but I made sure to keep that in mind as I continued my journey. There is a certain reward you can’t plan for when you take risks.
What should our readers know about your business?
As a MULTIDISCIPLINARY CREATIVE DIRECTOR + SOCIAL ARCHITECT – I always strive to operate from my most authentic self. A place of creativity, enriching culture, and collaborating with like-minded people. The Creative House is the sum of all my experiences that have shaped my world-view and taste over the years. My approach to everything I come across, whether it be a personal project or contributing outwardly, begins there. From high school to college, I promoted/hosted parties, which turned into working in the entertainment industry. That evolved into hosting panels, dinners, and eventually parties with a purpose. Everything I’ve been involved in has kind of had a natural progression. My eyes were always open to what could be next. Like most creatives, there is no real blueprint so that really has been my methodology.. do the work, pay attention, then refine your approach. Keep your mind open to learning… If you’re too busy trying to fix the last level, you’ll miss the flight.
The Creative House started organically just as a place for me to create things that resonated with me. A Creative & Ideation Maison, The Creative House is a multidisciplinary creative space. First and foremost, the Creative House is a Maison. A Maison is a living space. It’s a nod to all the creative collaborations that have been started in living rooms or over inspiring conversations that have become real experiences. The studio takes its origins from that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Working in the lifestyle and spirits space leads me to meet so many dope people, places, and things. This is one of those topics I could talk about all day long. Living well in this city takes on an entirely new meaning. From Monday to Sunday, Atlanta has something for everybody to experience.
Some of my favorites spots right now are Sotto Sotto, The James Room, Bar Vegan, and JoJo’s Beloved, Rocksteady, and Parlor Den.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, music is my biggest influence. I’ve been really into the creative process after coming across James Baldwin’s piece. That sent me into a exploration of great minds like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Solange Knowles, Ralph Lauren, Virgil Abloh, and Sean Carter are a few that come to mind immediately that have truly impacted my processes.
