Meet John Kornegay | Portrait Photographer & Marketer

We had the good fortune of connecting with John Kornegay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what is the most important factor behind your success?
For me and my journey into the art of photography, I attribute my success to my spouse and countless friends and family members supporting me in the early stages. For my method and how I go about capturing images, I strive to focus on the essence of the subject.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from all of the other talented photographers in the area is the experience. I treat every shoot with the idea of “I already know this person” which allows me to build rapport. The more rapport-building I do, the more relaxed the subject becomes. This allows me to hone in on the “essence” of the subject.
From a career perspective, I believe I’m in a position where the next evolutionary step in my ability to create images is heading towards more documentary-style photography.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Would bring them to a few spots, Raleigh Raw for some clean and healthy eating. Should they want to indulge in some of the southern carnivorous foods, we have two great food halls that would have plenty of options for them.
We’d go visit the NC Museum of Art and grab a drink at one of the bars on Glenwood.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Santana for being my first muse and encouraging me to pursue photography as a business. Plenty of photographers that I owe thanks for taking the time to talk shop but three, in particular, would be Gregory “Cognito” Barr, Kimberly Woodruff, and Timothy Bowser.
