We had the good fortune of connecting with John Balak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I think it happened naturally. I was that kid always trying to entertain or make people laugh. I just loved movies, tv and music. I always wondered how do you get into it? My parents had me in acting classes early etc. I think reading linear notes helped push me into a start in music early on. My life has had many ups and downs from being in bands to pursuing a career as a recording engineer and producer. Then becoming A LED video tech were I now work in Movies, TV and Music. I think it’s come full circle for me.

I still pursue music on the side with producer Andy Slagle we are known as The production duo Omega Empire.

I also have my fun with my character Superstar Ricky Dothan. Which is on instagram. Just try to make some friends laugh time to time,

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It was a cakewalk to get to where I’m at now! HA! The path I chose was that of pitfall harry son! (Im dating myself for sure) anything in life I think will have struggles and massive set backs. At least my journey did. I started on one path in music now my path went to be an Led video tech working on major Movies and TV shows. Along with corporate shows and music festivals and touring. Sometimes the one thing you love is not necessarily going to be thing or industry thats going to make you a living. If your ok to make a pivot in life you’ll be ok and stay creative.

I will tell anyone getting into to this career. Don’t claim you know how to do something when you don’t. It’s ok to ask questions. Also if you make a mistake, claim it, fix it and move on. People remember how you react when something goes wrong. Basically don’t play the blame game.

I’m just looking forward to working on more movies and tv shows in 20024. Now that the strikes are over. It’s time to get everyone back to work!

Also looking forward to a couple of E.P. Releases from Omega Empire . First one is coming second week of Jan. I’ll say this about it, If you can go back to 1982 at a afterparty for the battle of the network stars and soak in the vibe. Then this is your soundtrack for love, thievery, debauchery and fame.

Superstar Ricky Dothan will be dropping more ridiculous videos throughout the new year

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I would have to go to Hal’s steakhouse and have the best filet around. Have some drinks at The Righteous room. Then go home. Ha!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
