Meet Joezy | Christian Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joezy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joezy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The business and the platform I created was out of necessity and conviction from God. I saw the importance of bringing people together and feeding them what is beneficial and not just tastey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is very unique due to my beliefs but also very enriching for that same reason. I like to think of my art as vegetables, and me as a master chef. Most people’s first choice of consumption isn’t vegetables but if you have a GOOD chef they can prepare it in such a way you forget you are eating vegetables and want more. My art not only tastes good but it’s good for you. As far as where I am now in my artistic career I feel I am far from where I want to be but I am also far from where I started. To be able to get paid for my poetry, for my music, and to host events is a blessing. I think what got me to this point is God, consistency, and boldness.
It did not come easy but when I added those three facets progress was inevitable. God kept and keeps me humble but also focused. The consistency helped me progress even when I didn’t see my progress and wanted to quit, and the boldness allowed me to knock on doors most would be scared to even look at.
I want the world to know all we need in this world is available through Jesus Christ, and that you can be bold and different and still be effective. You can still be an outcast and cool, and not cool because everyone accepts you but cool because you did it your way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend to Busboys and Poets for an open mic night. Plus their food is bomb! We would also have to go to downtown D.C. and check out some famous landmarks like the monument and Lincoln Memorial. If they love pizza like me we would also have to visit Lupo Pizzeria in D.C. and go to my church Church of the Living God in Hyattsville on Sunday.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for saving me, loving me, and maturing me to a point where I could be a benefit to my family, friends, and community and not a hinderance. I also want to shoutout my mother who raised my brother and I on her own. She was able to instill in us a discipline and love that is commonly desired but not commonly acquired.
