We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanna G. Boyd, Esq. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joanna G., do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
The mother will always win in a custody battle. This just isn’t true. The laws and policies around custody are complicated, and, makes it more challenging for fathers. While it may be challenging, it’s not impossible. That’s why we focus on advocating for father’s rights and fighting for the best possible outcome.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a lawyer that specializes in helping families confidently navigate Georgia Family Law so they can fight for the best outcome possible. What makes my team different is that we take pride in helping those that can’t help themselves. As a mother, I am keen to advocate for clients seeking an outcome that is in the best interest of their child(ren). I believe everyone has rights and fathers are no exception. As a black mom I know I can’t raise my son without a father figure because I can’t literally teach him how to be a man. I want to give all the fathers out there the opportunity to be a great dad. There were a lot of obstacles in the way starting out, I had to work full time at a family firm and went to school in the evening. I took my bar exams while being eight (8) months pregnant, which was one of my most difficult but rewarding accomplishments. Being determined and persistent is what allowed me to overcome my challenges in life. It wasn’t easy but my son is my reason to fight, and now I have been recognized by the NAFLA as one of Georgia’s top ten ranking family law lawyers under age 40. It’s my goal to help as many families as I can to make a positive impact!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s a good one! I would have to take them to visit John Marshall school of law, because that was a significant place for me and my career. For fun, you can’t visit Atlanta and not visit a nice lounge! I absolutely love to eat so we will be visiting some of the best restaurants Atlanta has to offer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to shout out Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. I’ve connected with so many integral people that helped me improve my abilities as a lawyer. I’d also have to thank my mentors that have guided me along the way and even until this day. I can’t forget my son! He is my everything and gave me the strength to fight as hard as I have!
