We had the good fortune of connecting with J’Mihyia Whitsett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J’Mihyia, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind my business success is having a clear understanding of my purpose and strategically aligning my actions with that purpose. While I’ve had valuable experiences in corporate jobs that helped shape my entrepreneurial journey, I realized that corporate limitations would restrict my potential for growth and self-fulfillment.

During my corporate tenure, I discovered my purpose – helping and serving others. Engaging in heartfelt conversations with clients and families, and witnessing the smiles on students’ faces when I worked in the school system, fueled my desire to make a meaningful impact. Taking this purpose with me, I ventured into entrepreneurship and established my first endeavor, Marjae’s Wine Bar.

Through genuine relationships with both customers and staff, I strived to be the type of boss I aspired to be – treating individuals with respect and care. This approach, rooted in my purpose, has been the cornerstone of my success.

Ultimately, working in alignment with my purpose has been the driving force behind my achievements. It has allowed me to make a difference not only in my own life but in the lives of those I serve and support.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I take pride in the numerous accomplishments I have achieved within a relatively short timeframe. What brings me even greater satisfaction, however, is the knowledge that my journey has inspired others. Through coaching aspiring entrepreneurs and empowering women through my social club, Flutes and Flowers, I am able to share my success story and motivate others to pursue their dreams.

My path to where I am today involved giving my all to my plan A and maintaining unwavering optimism, even during challenging seasons. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of staying true to the vision I have for myself, even when others may not comprehend it. By remaining authentic and genuine, I attract like-minded individuals who appreciate what I have to offer.

Being able to inspire others and witness their growth and fulfillment is a true testament to the power of staying committed to your vision and staying true to yourself. It serves as a reminder that, in the end, finding your tribe and making a positive impact is the ultimate measure of success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting the area, I would take her to all of my spots of course. We would kickstart our day at The Breakfast Spot, Go to Filter Coffee and Hookah and end our night at Marjae’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother has played an instrumental role in my life, especially during my journey as a teen mother. Despite facing a unique set of challenges, I didn’t allow them to hinder my progress. Throughout it all, my mom has been my unwavering source of support, not only as a phenomenal mother but also as an exceptional grandparent.

She has gone above and beyond, sacrificing so much to ensure I could pursue my dreams and achieve my numerous goals. I never couldn’t do because of sitter challenges, she has always been there to lend a helping hand.

My mom’s unwavering support and consistent presence have made her the best role model in my life. I owe a great deal to her, as she has helped shape me into the person I am today. Through her love and example, I have been inspired and empowered to overcome challenges and strive for success.

So, I want to give a special shoutout to my mom for never giving up on me, and for being an incredible mother even as I became a mother myself.
