We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhennifer Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jhennifer, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that any risk you take in your professional or personal life should be calculated. Reviewing multiple outcomes, potential obstacles, personal readiness, the current economic climate, competitors and so on are a few things that should be considered. In my professional life, taking calculated risks allowed me to build my business slowly with a stable foundation.
Before I started my business, I knew that jumping in without doing proper research could quickly lead to failure. Entrepreneurship is so much more than being a boss. In the beginning, you are the bookkeeper, operations manager, HR, marketing, IT and so much more.
I believe in going after what you want in life, but only after a thorough review of your goals and current situation. We have all been dealt a certain hand of cards in life, make sure that you play the hell out of them.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own Centerpiece Social LLC, a boutique digital marketing business with a focus on paid social ads, sales funnels and email marketing. I started Centerpiece Social after running two e-commerce stores (now closed). While running my stores, I fell in love with running ads, email/sms sequences, landing/product page design and more.
I quickly realized that I needed assistance, so I hired a marketing agency to help me scale. I, like many other small business owners ran into ‘bro marketers’. The kind of agency that only cares about their monthly retainer and provides horrible services. After the unpleasant experience, I knew that I wanted to start a boutique agency that was client centered, professional and focused on optimizing for the best ROI.
Getting to where I am now was not easy, I started my business while working full time. I worked 7 days a week with 10-12 hour days for two years straight. I lost friends, I lost money and lost a bit of myself in the process. Looking back, the lessons that I learned were priceless. I learned that thorough research saves time and money. I learned that processes need to be put in place while things are slow, so you won’ have issues as you grow. I learned that simplicity scales and complexity does not. I learned that business mentorship will shave years off your journey. Lastly, most importantly, I learned that I was capable.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone was visiting for a week in the city, I’d definitely suggest outdoor activities plus some good food/drink spots. The Beltline, Roswell Mills waterfall, Kennesaw Mountain and the Silver Comet trail would be my outdoor go to’s. Now, for food and drinks there are numerous places I’d suggest. Here are my favorite picks in no particular order, St. Cecilia’s, Chai Yo Modern Thai, Atl Select, Red Phone Booth, Pig Parlour, The Consulate and the list goes on.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people in my life that have supported, mentored or encouraged me. I’d like to shout out my father Michael Thomas for being there when I fell and needed a leg up. I’d like to shoutout my longtime friends Daniella, Zarahi and Rashad for being the greatest friends a crazy girl like me could have. I’d like to shoutout Gary Duran and Chris Radosta of Unity Works Lighting for becoming my first clients. Lastly, I’d like to thank all the people who did not believe I was capable of starting a business, they were the fuel to my fire.
