Meet Jhai | Singer & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jhai, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue music because I was brought up in it. My entire family did music and it’s always been something that I enjoy doing. Being around so many talented musicians and artists, made me want to explore what I can do with my own creative gifts. So I began to write songs, record them myself and post them online. Creating music is something that is therapeutic for me and helps me to connect with the world surrounding me. I want to continue my family’s legacy and become apart of something that will push the world in a better direction.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would describe my music as a mixture of sultry r&b and pop, with elements of jazz melodies and hip hop drum patterns. I’m most proud of the fact that I write and record all of my music myself. I feel like that’s what sets me apart from a lot of other up coming artists. My music is also very versatile and incorporates different sounds from other genres of music and I feel that experimenting with different styles helps to make me stand out as an artist. Also, being completely independent and solely responsible for the content I make, gives me the satisfaction of a true artist. It hasn’t always been an easy road though. Getting to where I am now has been a grueling, yet rewarding process. There have been many obstacles and times where I wanted to give up, but with prayer and advice from close family members, I overcame the challenges. I’ve learned that in order to succeed you have to put in long hours and consistently hone your craft. I want the world to know that I aspire to inspire millions around the globe, so make room.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In my experience, some of the most fun and interesting things that happen are with me and my friends. Since everyone has been in quarantine, I’ve just been enjoying spending time with friends and family in the privacy of my home. When we want to get out, we’ll go to MattChews in Midtown or take some cute pictures at the Selfie Museum on Centennial Olympic Park Drive. But most of the time, I stay home and create music in my home studio.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this to my family for always encouraging and supporting me.
