We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessie D and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessie, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
The end goal I have for my career is to build a business that lasts long after I am no longer alive. I want to be able to create jobs and change the wealth gap in my community. Only 41% of African Americans own homes, by the end of my life I want to change that to 70-80%. The way we do this is by working together and increasing financial literacy. I want to get financial literacy classes in schools all over the United States. I want to build a business that provides grants for low-income areas to renovate their homes that are condemned. Essentially, my true end goal is to be a developer and financial influencer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from other realtors is, I’m a mortgage loan officer as well. I also use to own my own credit repair company. I have a lot of knowledge about the credit system and how to make it work for each client’s needs. I got to where I am today by never giving up and being passionate about my community and financial literacy. However, this was not an easy path. I quit the real estate industry once before, but God made me come back to it. I learned to get everything in writing and to pay attention to the people who support and always remember to not give energy to those who don’t. I want people to know, that nothing I do is for clout or money. I am just a little girl from central city who God gave a purpose to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would go to Phipps plaza first and do some shopping. We would go to Eden and get our hair done and then go get lunch at Houston’s. We would go back to the hotel, get dressed and hit suite lounge for some fun. Sundays are for brunching we would go to Breakfast at Barney’s and catch a few open houses.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God is my number one supporter he has always given me favor and kept me covered throughout my journey. Second is my mother. She has always made sure my mental health was and still is taken care of. Third is my family. They are so supportive of my career, and I am forever grateful for that.
