We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Hi team, my name is Jessica Myers, CEO and founder of my Real Estate Brand, ItsJessicaMyers. Most investors struggle taking the first step into their investing career, and I completely understand. I always thought it took hundreds of thousands of dollars to get into real estate and I was always worried that I would never get to a point where I can save up enough money to get my start. It was scary making the decision to quit my job. For so long, I only thought about what if it didn’t work, but then I changed my paradigm to what do I lose by NOT taking the chance. It was a risk, to say that I would generate my entire salary on my own, but I did it. I got the education. Because that is the only thing that trumps fear. Once you are educated in the very thing you want to take a chance in, it eliminates all fear. My business partner and I just made headlines for being the youngest to acquire a Home 2 Suites by Hilton in El Reno, Oklahoma. If I would have never gotten over my fear of taking risks as a wholesaler, and betting on me, I wouldn’t have been able to acquire the hotel.
What should our readers know about your business?
My name is Jessica Myers with itsJessicaMyers.com where we help working professionals rid themselves of corporate dependence through ground-floor real estate investing techniques. This work is important to me because I’m a real estate investor and I’ve always had a passion for cashflow and real estate ownership. We help working professionals who struggle getting their start in real estate investing and after they work with us they feel relieved with a clear path to building their 7-fig real estate portfolio. This business wasn’t easy to break into, white-male dominated as the pinnacle of success. Talk about generating your own income. I tried so many different things as a wholesaler, but it wasn’t until I generated my annual salary within a 90-day window, that I knew what was possible. There weren’t a lot of women in the field of real estate, let alone black women, so it was hard to find someone to be a mentor. I had to make decisions going off instinct, which was very scary. What if I made the wrong decision. That was a huge risk, but I knew it was an even greater risk to not take the chance to bet on me. There’s so much to speak to, from the contractor selling drugs out of my house, to the the one that ran off with thousands of dollars. But I chronicle a lot of these stories on my Podcast Concretecoins.com. The biggest lessons learned is just keep going and never give up!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would immediately take them to one of our projects to explore what’s possible. I mean what is more exciting that an inside peak at mega Atlanta mansions with a modern build luxurious flare. This is where we go to dream and manifest. The belt line here in Atlanta is a site to see. Just as Skyline park is for Manhattan, the Beltline takes you through some of the most historic districts here in Atlanta, and allows you to see all walks of life and various types of communities, along with scenic walks and parks and bars/food. It gives you a little taste of everything there is to see here. I also like taking a hike up stone mountain. One of Georgia’s most visited attractions and a large crystal in the flesh. Made up of a granite-quartz, stone mountain is a magical mystical place, that atop it is filled with a manifestation vortex that allows you to reach your highest potential literally and physically. Whenever I am challenged mentally, climbing the mountain gives me all of the clarity I need. Knowing I can push my body to accomplish the unthinkable translates spiritually also. Next we would venture to Poor Calvins, a Seafood asian fusion whose tastes burst through every bite. But that’s not before we enjoy a catered meal of vegan perfection from my private chef ItsVegan by Shalonda. She will have you thinking she uses meat, this is the secret to my weightloss. Not that I’m on a diet, but eating some of her delicious meals, helps me to eat less meat. Next, you have to get a sound bath massage from my husband, jovialjoel.com. Oh the journeys you’ll travel without leaving the room through this immersive sound therapy. His attention to detail will take you on an intergalactic magical experience that will have you tapping in to purpose and manifestation to live the life you desire to lead. I would attend a pole dance aerobics class at Dance 411 studio. Tapping in to the sensuality within, this is a great place to explore what makes atlanta popular and find your inner burlesque seductress. You haven’t been to Atlanta, if you haven’t experienced Ponce City Market, a nice trendy office spot off the beaten path of the belt line, riddled with diverse local eats, and a great place to explore other cultures.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could go on and on about the people that have helped to shape who I am, but I’ll just start with a few. The Book The Alchemist- for so long I questioned the journey, the direction, and purpose. But it wasn’t until I read this book, I understood the alchemist within us all. To transmute life situations and turn them into wins, no matter where we started, I will transmit the opportunity into joy, purpose and love. This book changed my paradigm, allowing me to see the treasure within, and to enjoy the experience. Everything in life is setting you up for the greater good. My sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Incorporated – This sorority has given me the gift of sisterhood that I will carry with me for life. Some of my closest friends and confidants, the ones who know the true me, have seen me through my worst of times, and celebrated with me through the best. These are the girls I will carry with me for life. Aiming High Inc.- A transformational training class. When we first started this journey, the instructor, Mrs. Sylvia High (H-I-G-H naturally) said this would be one of those experiences up there with child birth, weddings and such. And I thought, how could this be. But understanding that the ways of being control the access to the life you desire, I’ve been able to tap into my ultimate power through the tools and distinctions I’ve learned, landing me the tools I need to fax touch situations. My grandmother- She taught me to be outside the BOX. Her wit and sass, kept me on my toes. Plenty of times, she would banter back and forth feeding my curiosity. “An apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree,” I would say, then she’d quickly respond “unless it’s on a hill”. My father- Without him challenging me in my early twenties, I would not have discovered, my climb up the corporate ladder didn’t allow me to see that I might have been on the wrong wall. Now, I’m focused on building my seat at the table. Sandra Rice- She was the first to identify potential in me, back when she hired me at FOX 5, as apart of the Emma L. Bowen Foundation. I found myself working hard to prove her decision right, until I built the courage to bet on myself.
