We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Lowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success, is having faith in God! I moved into my first apartment the day before Georgia was shut down due to COVID. I worked a full-time job, and was in school full time for Cosmetology at the time. And because of low work, and high positive test results in my workplace, I quit my job. I took a leap of faith, and decided to become a full time nail technician. It started off slow, and as I practiced more and more on myself and family members, I began to take real clients. I picked up maybe 5 new clients, and after that I applied for a nail salon job, lol. That salon was great to start off, because the salon was extremely slow. But I wasn’t getting better, so I applied for another salon job where it was more traffic, and within a few months my nails were, as good as someone in their second year. While doing nails in a salon, I finished up cosmetology school and took my state board exam. I passed my first test, but failed the second so I basically shut down. I was depressed and sad, but after prayers and words of encouragement I decided to take the exam again. I made note cards, I read my textbook over, I gave myself quizzes, and I practiced as many times a day I could. After a month I took the exam again, and passed. In February 2021, I received my Masters of Cosmetology license, and a few weeks later I took another leap of faith. I left the nail salon I was in, and opened my own salon suite. I was excited, and nervous at the same time. And with more and more new clients coming, my work was now extremely great. So I began teaching classes, and making more money. I left the suite and built my own at my moms house, so that I can save for my own shop that I hope to open up sometime in 2023. While in the mist of saving for my shop, I started doing body waxed, and I’ve had the opportunity to service popular YouTubers and a few celebrities! Believing in God, and taking a leap of faith carried me almost two years later being a successful nail tech. And if anyone is ever in doubt or holding back from starting their journey, all I can say is give your all to God. Let him know that you need him, you’re here to serve him, actually BELIEVE and no matter what he will be there to help you cross every bridge.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Building a brand will never be easy, even if you had all the money in the world. Quitting my job to do nails full time came with a lot of stress financially, but I didn’t let it stop me. I just promoted myself more, put my Instagram name on my car, made flyers and posted them around college campuses. Word of mouth goes a long way. I would do my best friend and sisters nails, and when someone complimented them, they referred me. One thing about me is that I learn fast. I recently had the opportunity to work with Iggy Azalea, and she prefers Gel X nails. Although I didn’t have much practice with gel X, I literally practiced and watched videos on it for 48hrs. If you ever hit a speed bump, don’t ever stop or turn around. Keep going because there is nothing you can’t do!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit the main spots we’d have to hit up is my nail room of course lol. But on Sunday we’d do brunch, either breakfast at Barney’s or Toast on Lenox. Monday we’d spot by the Georgia aquarium. Tuesday my favorite Mexican restaurant in Morrow called Las Trojas Cantina. On Wednesday we’d do a picnic at the park. Thursday go see a movie where you can dine in of course. Bowling and Pappadeaux on Friday. And Slush Atl on Saturday.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Besides God, I would have to give most of my thanks to my clients. Without my clientele I wouldn’t be where I am. Honestly their like family to me, they support me 100%, share my work, push me too try new things, give me words of encouragement, and so much more.
