We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Jones, MHA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To me, risk is just making a decision by stepping out on faith. We only see our full capacity when we take risks. No matter the outcome, we grow through the process and become more resilient and confident. In my case, to start a nonprofit during the pandemic, I developed an understanding of marketing strategies, self-funding, and building on a foundation with uncertainty. However, meaningful purpose led to me organize my nonprofit organization to make a difference in the community. Trusting my ability to pursue my dream of helping others continues to show me it was the best decision I have ever made. All it took was the confidence to take the risk, and my life’s passion blossomed into so much more. Take the risk, believe in yourself, stay committed, and don’t look back.
What should our readers know about your business?
Tiny Blessings Foundation provides support, education, and blessing boxes of essential items to low-income mothers and families to support newborns, infants, and toddlers. Our vision is a world where every mother and child has the resources and support to reach their unlimited potential. As founder and executive director, the organization was birthed from my joy of providing, supporting, and caring for friends that were newly mothers or had young children. I’ve always had a vision of who I will be as a mother, and until that time comes, I vow to help those around me thrive. My desire is to build a community of women to pour into the lives of mothers.
Have you ever thought about how generations of women were able to endure the journey of motherhood? They had a community of women that supported and help one along the way. After working in the healthcare field for some years, I realized some mothers did not have adequate resources nor support once entering the world of motherhood. I wanted every mother and child to have the opportunity to thrive and have equality to start on an even playing field.
The path along this journey is far from easy, but it’s worth every trial and sacrifice made. It’s so important for us not to let the no’s stop us from growing and to understand that’s it’s just a part of the journey of entrepreneurship. I received so many no’s, or did not receive a response at all. However, I believed in the purpose of Tiny Blessings Foundation. Believe in yourself. Cultivate yourself and keep the faith– impossible things are happening every day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Born and raised in a small town of Mississippi, I am not much of a city girl, so the transition from a small town to a big city was one for the books. However, I have some favorite spots for eating, visiting and relaxing. We would start on week off with at Victory Midtown Church. The next place we would visit would be the Beltline, Piedmont Park, or Ponce City Market. We would have to visit some great eating spots like South City Kitchen, Mojave, Two Urban Licks, Pappadeaux, and Ms. Iceys Kitchen & Bar. Finally, we would end it with a Hawks or Braves game.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my journey with Tiny Blessings Foundation, I live by this scripture, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17). This life dream and passion of mine would not have come into fruition without my Lord and Savior by my side. Secondly, I would like to thank my mentor for continuing to guide me to understand navigating and building a nonprofit organization. Dr. Lauren Simpson, has her Masters of Education in Nonprofit Leadership, and her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership. She specializes in social media management for small businesses, social media coaching, and provides nonprofit consulting. Also, I would like to thank the community, Board Members: Erika Alaman & Whitney Meadows, donors, partners for supporting and staying committed to Tiny Blessings Foundation. I am grateful for their generosity and take pride in knowing we have a community that are passionate about our mission and vision for the community.
