We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Dalby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson of many in the last two years in business that Jessica Dalby Brand Media LLC and my career has taught me is it is easier to quit than it is to keep going. Often, we find ourselves looking at the minutia aspects of business, because in the moment that may be what we think is the most important. However, how often do we spend countless hours on social media posts, content, etc.; yet, in the grandest scheme of things a business thrives from establishing and building professional relationships and connections with other individuals and businesses. Therefore, as the CEO and Founder of Jessica Dalby Brand Media LLC, I pride myself on professionalism, transparency, integrity, and my word as that will define you as a person and your business/brand forever.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As it is Hispanic Heritage Month, I find it with great pride to say that I am a Hispanic woman with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and a veteran of the United States Army, I made the conscious choice to venture into the world of entrepreneurship in August 2020. Jessica Dalby Brand Media LLC is a collaboration of brands and initiatives that offer a wide variety of initiatives, in music, mental health, and more. Under Jessica Dalby Brand Media LLC you have Diggie A-2 The Progression of Hip-Hop video/audio podcast, P.U.S.H. Entertainment, Plan D With Jessica Dalby video/audio podcast, and Unified Goals Published.

In business, I’ve endured wins and losses, but losses are not losses they are lessons learned. I have wanted to quit multiple times. I have been knocked down, not seen as an equal professionally, underestimated, devalued, but I am still here. If anything came easy, then I would not be here telling my story to inspire others. It absolutely has not been a smooth road. I have come face to face with personal, professional, financial, physical, and mental challenges. I do not run away from any of them. I embrace it and own my truth. It is what has built me to who I am today and who I continue to evolve in to. When speaking of obstacles and struggles I say personal, physical, financial, and mental because I have faced them all. They all are a part of your professional career. We speak of work-life balance. However, we have one life, and it incorporates everything.

Jessica Dalby Brand Media LLC is the mothership that runs all the subsidiary brands beneath it. You can view Jessica Dalby Brand Media LLC as a Venn diagram. Fusing hip-hop music, culture, social injustice awareness, service-based entertainment company, artist development, business consulting, public relations, mental health, and the power of music, and highlighting the best and the brightest via different cities to receive the shine they so deserve.

In my opinion, what sets me apart from others is I am a firm believer in passion before profit. If you have the passion, the work ethic, and put in the time, the profit will come but you will also be recognized because you remained true to who you are and exceled against all odds.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would have to say the MLK Jr. National Historic Site, Centennial Olympic Park, Center for Civil Human Rights, Piedmont Park, and of course The Trap Museum. There are so many dining options, I absolutely love Atlantic Station. The list can continue so long. There is never a dull moment in the city of Atlanta, Georgia.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people have poured into me these last two years in business and via my career. I want to begin by saying as entrepreneurs we do not have to do it alone. Once, you find that right person or people you will know. The best way to explain the characteristics of this person I am speaking of is no matter what they will tell you the truth (whether it’s what you want to hear or you don’t). They will support you in the good and the bad (financial, emotional, professional, and more). When you believe they will retreat and you may find yourself in the entrepreneurial fight alone again, they will remain a constant figure professionally and personally. They will believe in you more than you believe in yourself and will never let you quit. Most importantly, they can be a stranger you would never have met in life. I am honored to say that this person is Julie Lokun.

Julie is the owner of multiple entities, such as, Julie Lokun Personal Coaching & Development, Crown & Compass Life Coaching Services & Personal and Professional Development, the podcast host of Obsessed with Humans on the Verge of Change and the podcast The Mediacasters. The owner of the Mediacasters Publishing House, The Mediacasters community on the Mighty Network platform that elevates the voices of all via publishing, presenting, and podcasting worldwide (free of charge), best-selling author, and a proud mother of four boys. I say this so you can get a picture of how much she does, but still has pushed me the entire year of 2022 and I am grateful for her. As I interned for The Mediacasters, because she believed in me, she mentored me, and I am proud to call her my colleague, friend, and am ecstatic to see what the future holds. There are others who have impacted my career, but Julie Lokun significantly impacted my professional career, personal development, and continues to do so presently.
