We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessi Holden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business because I don’t know enough Registered Dietitians stepping outside of the box and teaching people both cooking and nutrition simultaneously. Everyday families need help in the kitchen and I knew I could make a difference.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a culinary and family focused dietitian and someone who stands against diet culture practices is not something you come across too often. I want people to know that food doesn’t have to be complicated, cooking can be a great joy in your life, and that slowing down and getting rid of any nonsense people shout about food is the best “diet” you can ever join. I believe that food is meant to taste good and nourish the body and that these two don’t have to happen simultaneously at every meal. Food and our cooking habits are meant to be livable, doable, and fun.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the beautiful west side of Michigan. I’d take them to my favorite brunch spot, Brunch House in Muskegon, MI and then we’d take a scenic dune hike called Snug Harbor. We’d of course spend time walking boardwalks, enjoying the beach and fresh water, and drink up some delicious wine or craft beer at one of the many wineries and breweries. We’d enjoy slowing down for coffee and exploring every city along the west side of Michigan.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been supported by so many fellow dietitian friends who believe in me and my philosophies. Their support never ceases to help me continue this endeavor! My husband also deserves a lot of credit for the unwavering support and love he gives me.
