Hi Opal’s Gemz, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Help me Lord! No seriously lol that was my initial thought process. I wanted my own business so bad but I literally felt I had NOTHING to offer such as doing hair, singing, etc. I tried many hustles before finding my niche in treat making. With treat making, I knew this was it because I naturally felt good at what I was doing. Also I enjoyed the reactions of my first few audiences when I was testing them out so I took the leap into turning it into a passion. I love what I do!! Making people smile and bringing joy to them with my treats at their events is everything to me!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started as a medical assistant to now a full time medical billing specialist. I enjoy what I do in my professional career as well but since I decided to create my own path on the side and explore making treats, I have been more satisfied with my working career. I am finally doing something that I love on my own terms where I am my own boss and that is the most exciting part of my work life! I can say it’s harder than what it looks like. Learning how to melt chocolate, different methods, all of these things take time and trial and error. I’ve messed up on a big order before but learning from mistakes like those are sometimes needed because I learned so much on what not to do that I can avoid it next time. Investing in quality products to make beautiful treats is an art in itself as it takes time and labor to create these tasty treats. I invest in myself often by constantly learning new techniques. I want the world to know that if I can make something outta what I felt I had was nothing, then you can too!! Seek first His kingdom and all these things will be added….

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely hit the city! Let’s do brunch and hit places where we can get active. I would definitely suggest Top Golf where can get some drinks and play the game! I also like learning so the inner nerd in me would love to take a tour if the Civil Rights museum downtown and to the king Center. I also like a good lounge so we would definitely be hitting one of the many in metro Atlanta for drinks and food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out every last customer and person that has supported me. Whether making a purchase or re-posting and sharing my posts on social media, I thank you!!! I get a tad bit of anxiety hoping the client loves it as much as I do before every order goes out the door so to be met with such praise and positive feedback is everything! I also would like recognize my husband and kids. They are my helpers in assembling boxes, packaging and helping me prep, thank you!!!
