We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerrold Few and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerrold, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
You know what? Honestly, I don’t think I had a “thought process” in traditional terms, like: “I want to make a product and change the world!” lol, nah ,with me it was more like, this was the natural progression. I grew up thinking everyone who was rich explicitly worked for themselves based off of interacting with my relatives and what they had going on. Growing up, I was able to be exposed to so many skills and environments that I figured out what I wanted to do early. On the creative side I had My Uncle Jim Few is a Ceramic Artist, My Aunt Harriet is a Photographer and had this studio in her house, my Aunt Charlene a musician and Illustrator and My God mother is a famous singer in the S.O.S. Band, so creatively I had all this inspiration from my relatives early on and on the business end my Great Aunt who I would go spend summers with in Bessemer, Alabama owned and opened so many business, a corner store, barber shop, houses in the neighborhood, etc. I looked up to her and was very enchanted by that lifestyle. So I knew I wanted to create a business for myself that make use of all of my skills and talents learned over the years, which led me to a multimedia production company.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I own a Multimedia Production Company, Times 10 Media, Llc dba “Collective”. We specialize in Music production, Videography & Film, and Design Services. It fuses the different trades that I have learned over the years to provide a “one stop shop” so to speak, for creatives and business professionals alike to have access to quality production and a competitive price.
I started out my career freelancing as a Traditional Artist, drawing, painting, photography, that sort of thing, Now, I always did music production but it wasn’t in the forefront because I wasn’t making any money off of it at the time. Above all I just enjoy the freedom of working for myself, being able to take multiple skill-sets/ streams of income and combining them to afford the life I want to live. I’m Not gonna lie, I went through some bull to get to this vantage point. It took me bumping my head more than a few times to get things working and becoming aware of areas that I needed help in but I never let that stop me. I always knew that being a jack of all trades was a hard, arduous road but it’s the road I chose and feel the most comfortable on. Like the quote says: “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”
Currently, I am excited about my Clothing brand, “COLLECTIVE”(@collectiveatl) started in 2013, My multimedia production company Times10Media llc, and my different music ventures and instrumental albums under the monikers FEWTIMES10(@FEWTIMES10) & Pyrex Mozart(@pyrexmozart.beats), respectfully. But really what I’m most excited about are the things that I’ve collectively done and accomplished in music with my family and long time collaborator, an artist from Atlanta named Deante’ Hitchcock (@deantevh), whether that be vicariously or physically myself. From creating videos, to touring, to dropping classic material, His album “How I met your Mother” is on the way, & an ep he just released not too long ago titled “Everyday’s the 14th” is out now on all platforms.
But bottom line I want the world to know about all my cool a** friends and what they have going on, and what they want to gift to the world. I want you to know about my brand, “COLLECTIVE”. I want the world to know our story to use as an inspiration through life to do what you love, and if you are a solid individual the money will come. And, Of course I want people to sing our songs!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m from Atlanta so I’m usually in the city and not the surrounding areas, unless I’m at home on the southside. I recommend Jack’s Pizza & Wings on N. Highland to grab some of those baked lemon pepper wings and take in the ambiance, and of course the Bar that is the newest cornerstone of the city, “Our Bar ATL” (@ourbaratl) and see the homie Lauren Knight’s (@sheslaurenk) Comedy Open Mic. I also frequent iLounge in East Atlanta Village they have a great showcase on Wednesday’s I like attending and some dope parties on the weekends, and all those places have a great staff.
Walking through downtown is also a dope opportunity to take some pictures and prolly ride the marta for kicks, Ponce City market has this steak spot named “Cuts”, which I’ve been raving about. So, if you like steak, hit up cuts. The Basement in East Atlanta Village, the homie DJ Nick the Quick Spins there for #Ugotflava (@nickthequickatl), MJQ to kick it with the homie Sir Skyford Hyland (@sky_hy), the city’s living Muse, and if you like being “outside-outside” hit Pals, or BonfireATL. You gotta Dm me if you want me to tell you about the best Atlanta strip clubs tho lol.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to spotlight my “brother from another” Mose James IV, Creator of OMG Booth, which I’m sure everyone in the city has seen or had a pic taken in one of his photobooth’s at various events or sports events in Atlanta. The homie Charles Love at Unlimited Love Printing on Riverdale Rd. A black owned custom printing business. Web Developer Thomas Pickens (infoton, @tvpickens). Credit Guru, Kevin Blackman (@creditkae). DJ Nick 1hunnit(Fila Dj’s), who first showed me how to make beats, and mentors me to this day. My eldest brother and Principal, Dr. Charles B. Few. The homie Gabriel Hart(Vietnam Vanguard, Vanguard Entertainment) Big bro really taught me how to use final cut pro and protools, and just gave me free game that I’ve used over the years to make deals and plays, He’s one of my biggest influences when it came to creating Music Videos. I put this on the Lord himself, We would “break-in” the studio at g state and just record and make beats in that bih all night. He was hungry for it, anything for the art, whether it be getting locked up for trespassing or whatever lol But his hunger inspired me to take what I do seriously. He unknowingly helped me stay off the streets and in the studio cause at first I was just going to school to get fresh, mess with the girls, make my lil plays and stay out the hood, My priorities was all over the place lol, But It was like my escape from living with my Dad over off Boulevard, in 4th Ward, cause I was literally paying my own way through school at the time, doing crazy stuff and my dad was struggling with addiction at the time. Shout out to my producer partner, Rapper/Singer-Songwriter Cash Muny (@G6mula), My brudda Grammy nominated artist and future legend Deante Hitchcock (@deantevh), Super Producer Brandon Phillips-Taylor @brandonphillipstaylor , Super Manager Christopher Pratt (@topherpatt), My OG Chauncey, Jimmy Soprano, Countree Noise, My artist Ohkacoo, Nick Anderson, the Singer. But my biggest supporter I want to shout out was my homie, my brother, the Legend, Jayson Wilson, aka Jay Slick. He died December 14th 2009 He was my brother, my business partner, one of my best friends, ever. I knew no matter where I was at, or what I was doing if I’m with my dawg Slick, we had each other’s back and we was gon have a great time and make everyone around us vibe to our music and do the same. We’d be at the most hole in the wall spots and have those places ROCKING! If Slick aint do nothing else he kept it real and honest with you and he could sing like a angel… Imagine a big, Suge Knight Lookin dude singing like an angel and smoother than the mack himself, he was a real Atl LEGEND…I miss my boy everyday. Shouts to you brother.
