We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerome King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerome, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process really just came from realizing there was a problem needed to be solved and I wanted to solve that problem. I became obsessed with finding an easier way to help music creators find a studio to create. How could something that seemed so simple yet be hard to accomplish for a musician?

I use to write and battle rap with my friends growing up back home in Detroit, but we had a personal home studio where we would create. So as I met other music creators while living here in Atlanta and did such some research I realized their was some solutions but none that stood out.

So I saw the opportunity to innovate and I knew I had the acumen and skill to execute. Once I got deeper into the research and just started overall understanding business, my entire outlook on life changed.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
AudioDope is a platform that connects music creators & recording studios. Not only do we get creators studio time, but we also help you find jobs in the recording studio with our Career Fair platform. The studios that host on AudioDope post jobs to the Career Fair (https://careers.audiodope.co) job board and you can apply for a job in the studio!

This is just the beginning of what we are building and we got more in the pipeline. When its all said and done, AudioDope will be a music creator one-stop-shop to enhance their music business. In ten years, I see AudioDope as one of the most valuable brands in the world. It will take some time to get there, but I believe that because I know what we are building and how dedicated I am to making this happen.

I’ve been doing research and development for going on 3+ years. Talking to recording studio managers, audio engineers, music producers and just perfecting the right features.

It’s been a rewarding organic process to say the least. I’ve been bootstrapping this with my own money and had some times where I wonder how would I keep the business running. Once I got the first studio on board, and that jumped to 10, my obsession became my obligation.

When you get customers or businesses that say they will pay you to use your service, everything changes. My job now is to help my studios get more revenue and exposure. I’m fully committed and invested to solving this problem at mass scale and I’m going to see it through fruition.

This has been the greatest self-development process for me I’ve endured so far. Mentally I been dealing with alot while creating this on the personal side of things. This allows me to channel everything I’m going through into my craft and my self. Being in business got me operating on a whole different frequency. I just don’t look at life or the things in society the same anymore.

If you want to take things to the next level, you can’t stay the same person that got you to the current level. In life, you have to adapt and grow. The same can be said for business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Someone always in Atlanta that I know and we always hit up Edgewood! Edgewood is just a vibe when everything is smooth. I like to go eat at Slutty Vegan, hit the rooftop at Circa for a day party. Then go back home rest and then head out at night to Buckhead somewhere.

Revel Lounge is cool. Kabob Land is another one. Rosebar is a couple doors down if you looking for that.

I would recommend if you going on a date and wanted to do something different try the Painted Pin.

Peters Street is must too. We go to Escobar, 255, SPIN. Elleven45.

In all honesty, my go-to spot is Suite Lounge. Since I first came to Atlanta in 2009, Suite Lounge is undefeated for me.

Atlanta like Vegas to me. It’s always something going on and something to do. Its gets expensive too lol.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to give shoutout to the my family & friends. They always encourage me and give me strength to keep going. Life is about connections and memories. My father is someone who I rely on for knowledge. He has pushed me and help guide me to this point.

I’m thankful because where I’m from alot of men don’t have their father and it has deep effect on personal development. Throughout all my transitions he has been there as my coach or my Yoda and been there to pick me up when I fall.
