We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Teel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeremy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to create something that would keep change in my pockets, wouldn’t stress me out, and could be fun to do even if I was tired. Naturally, that was doing anything creative or organizationally driven so, I started a consulting business. I Quickly realized that young professionals, artists, new startups, and people in the dating pool at something in common. No clue what to say about themselves, how to best present, and most importantly how to plan for it. So www.JeremyATeel.com Jeremy A Teel Creative Consulting was born. Offering Photography, Start-Up Consulting, and misc. creative services from Baloon art to headshots.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Jeremy A Teel Creative can do anything therefore, the sky is the limit for achieving goals with you. I’d say my proudest moments are when people realize they aren’t so different but, they are just ready to try something new. The pressure comes off and they dive headfirst into their dreams. Be it a photoshoot, a marketing campaign, or getting the DBA to start their business. I would say getting to this place has been a journey of a lot of falling and getting back up. Being on set without a flash or in a meeting with no briefing and having to turn out something amazing. Also, having all the equipment in the world or knowledge of a subject and only needing my phone and some tape. This is what I feel makes me and my firm different, we come prepared but, also go with the flow set by you. Some of the lessons… don’t waste time buying all gadgets and subscribing to everything, learn what makes you excited and all auxiliary things attached, and let the rest go. The result will be great! Don’t hoard leads, sometimes it is just not a good fit for you and the client. Refer them out to someone you know that might be more their vibe, this will save you a headache and make you look like a team player. The team being them. Just get up and do it! Those times where you just can’t seem to get out of bed to write the email or edit the pictures. Get your butt up and do it! You’ll feel so much better after and likely will get more done than one project. There are far too many to say but, there are a lot of lessons learned. As far as the world knowing about JAT Creative and Consulting, there is are so many answers to the question “what should I do?” and we can answer it one time or five times but each time, you will be part of the process as I work with you to create something you can be proud of.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s just say I don’t like living in Austin at all. If someone offers me another breakfast taco, I might throw something. If my bestie came to Austin, we would hop in the car and head to the airport. No shade!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that I could recognize. The first would be my Grandmother Vernetta (Kat), she gave me the power to create whatever reality I needed to be in so that I was comfortable. She also taught me that fun, beauty, and security don’t have to cost a lot of money but, they all have to come from a place of passion or pride. Another family member is my amazing Aunt Donna, who shows me daily that education is nothing if you don’t apply it. My creative and professional Mentor Marcus Sanchez who encourages me to keep pushing the envelope in my art and activism. There are honest too many to say.
