We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Sturdivant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m originally from a small town called York Alabama. My grandmother took care of me and her kids all in one small house together. She always instilled in us how to be respectful and how to be God fearing children. Growing up with a brother who was diagnose with down syndrome disorder helped me understand others with differences. It also gave me the opportunity to be able to teach my brothers different strategies of communication, how to play , and how to express himself in everyday life. He was the oldest sibling out of my 3 sisters and myself. But, by him having his condition , he always treated me as if I was his big brother and he helped me build great leadership skills.. Helping my brother maneuver through life adversity helped me become the passionate educator I am today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am now a Professional Lead Pre-k Teacher. I have been teaching for 7 years now. Coming from a small town in Alabama and being able to give back to the community is a once in a lifetime dream. Losing my brother and mother wasn’t easy then and isn’t easy now. But God has brought me through the storm and have made me and my heart whole again. I can now say that I ‘am proud of the person I’ve become. God has all of the control in my life. I would have never thought that I would be in this position to help others and give back to my community. All the patience, love, and joy that I bring to my students life daily is priceless. I have learned soo many lessons on the way. Lessons that I even use with my own biological kids at home. I want the world to know that I am very passionate about teaching our youth new ideas and strategies. I have always enjoyed teaching and being the person in a child’s life who is always there to listen to their thoughts. Being able to watch children grow and learn is amazing. Teaching in Early Childhood is special to me because I can be the person who set a educational foundation in their journey to become respectful, intelligent, and well rounded individual. Although academics are important, daily interactions that encourage social , emotional, and physical development are just as valuable.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Coming to Atlanta itinerary will consist of having brunch at Atlanta Breakfast Club. After eating brunch we would probably go play paintball fight at Paintball Atlanta. Next, we would head over to The Mall Of Georgia to shop for a couple of clothing , maybe shoes as well. Before heading out we will stop by Hibachi Buffet to enjoy some good hot food experience. After we are done eating we will go and get dresses to head over to Andretti Indoor Karting and Games and enjoy a night life of fun games , good drinks, bowling ,and more.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In 2011 I lost my brother to illness dealing with his down syndrome disorder. I felt lost and devastated. I wanted to give up and drop out of school soo bad. Instead I started to find myself and grew much closer to God. I started to care for others and their situations. I started to show more love and concern for others as well. In 2013 my mother passed away from cancer. She was my support. She was my biggest fan. She was my Super Hero. Losing my brother and mother in a year span of time gave me a lot of time to reflect on my life and find my purpose.
