We had the good fortune of connecting with Jepen Parsons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jepen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind becoming a rapper and taking it more serious was my life I was headed down a deep dark road I got tired of going to jail after goin twice in a 33 day span and after continuing down that path I got shot 7 times at 18 which could’ve cost me my life and much more being thankful to be alive and feeling I had a purpose made me want to take it ten times more seriously so I changed the whole way I looked at the rap business for the betterment of my career and my life
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is the dedication I have and time I put into my craft and learning the business and not just rap as an independent artist and being able to take criticism and help looking for outside sources and not just doing everything myself the thing in my career that I am most excited about now is my documentary and tape that I have making since I woke up from my coma after being shot it’s took almost a year and isn’t nearly done I want it to represent me and show the world who I really am as person as just a pose to the thug people make my community out to be to get where I am today professionally I had to work and learn to be an engineer but studio equipment learn beat selection word play and how to put a song together I am 19 now and I was 15/16 when I started I won’t say it was the easiest thing to learn but I won’t say it was the hardest when u have a passion for something u don’t look at it as a job or a task so u don’t mind putting in extra hours or over time to get to where u want to be but it won’t come over night and I’m still far from where I want to be some lessons I learned along the way was how to market or how to promo myself even down to the way I dress or my image how I promote myself becoming a rapper and doing most it of it myself I learned a lot and made many mistakes it took time to learn the things the way I like it I had to learn to work more and play less learn new words look outside the box for beats try different things to help me progress in my career I want the world to know that my brand is about changing lives and my story is a life changing one I’m here for the youth and to save them from the things I’ve been through
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you were to come to my city of stone mountain Georgia I would tell u to visit Stone Mountain park I would say eat at all star blitz for some great food I would say to just explore the town it has a lot to offer but stay away from most cover stores because they could get u locked up or shot at
