We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Norman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
If I could choose one factor that has contributed to my success for my business and brand it would be friendship. I am a very personable person as it is. In order for me to capture the most authentic moments of my clients I have to connect with them not only as a photographer, but as a friend. I really delve deep into what makes my clients smile, laugh, and have fun! Once the images are delivered I make sure to not lose contact. I check in to make sure they are happy with their them and always ask if there is something I could have done better. A lot of my business strives on word of mouth and that in itself shows me that I’m doing something right.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I never imagined becoming a photographer. I truly thought I was supposed to be a teacher. Once I started the education program in college, I realized that was not where I wanted to be. I wanted to inspire and be creative, but I wanted something that I could have control of. I graduated with a degree in business and started interning with a local photography studio. I quit my full-time job eleven years ago, started my company, and have not looked back. Owning any small business no matter what it is, isn’t easy. Getting to where I am today came with a lot of blood sweat and tears, literally! I learned a lot of hard lessons along the way like making sure contracts were in place for you AND your client. Also, making sure to understand that mistakes do happen because we are human just remember to learn from them and DON’T QUIT! My brand is simplicity, yet dramatic. The moments of a new mom meeting her first born, a dad walking his daughter down the aisle to give her away, or two dads finally becoming parents through surrogacy. The stories of these people lives are told through my photographs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Almost anything at Ponce City Market is delicious or has fun things to do. Also, going to the Battery to enjoy a juicy burger from Walhburgers while watching a Braves game on the lawn in front of the screen is great! Take a trip to Stone Mountain for some beautiful fall views and cool shops to visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, my family and friend’s support is what keeps me on my feet in this business. Also, the photographer community local to me.
