We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennell Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennell, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
For me, the most important factor behind my success is my awareness that whatever success I obtain is not about me. I have five children, a husband, two sisters I raised after our parents died, and a host of other people who depend on me. I do it for them, to show them it’s possible. I do it for the legacy of my parents. I do it for the people who will be changed or inspired by my story. That is what success is to me. When all is said and done, I want my life to be about service.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think what sets me apart from others is just the fact that I’m me. We are all different and unique in our own way and I am very aware that no one can do what I do, just as I can’t do what someone else does. I started this business because my son had severe eczema as a baby. After trying every baby soap, lotion, and cream, on the shelf I took matters into my own hands. I started researching what causes eczema and how to get rid of it, and that’s how I started making soap. My son is going to be four this year and he has not had an eczema flare-up in three years. I couldn’t keep that to myself! A lot of people are very unaware of the literal poison that is in their skin and body care products and I want to change that. I am starting school to become a licensed esthetician in June and I plan to open a skin care spa once I complete that. Nothing about this journey is easy, as someone who struggles with depression is can be especially difficult for me but even in my darkest moments I can hear God whispering in my ear “better is coming” and I believe that wholeheartedly. I’ve learned that I’m stronger than I thought, and I’ve learned that the greatest fight I will ever fight is against myself. It’s much easier to figure out how to win when you know who/what you’re fighting. As far as my brand, I want the world to know that I won’t stop until The Royal Sunflower is a household name!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, currently I live in Dallas but I’m from South Florida, I’ve only been here a few years. So definitely would say Six Flags, Reunion Tower for a great view of downtown Dallas, Tru Kitchen & Kocktails for the black-owned dining excellence, and that’s all I’ve got. I have five kids I don’t get out as much as I’d like right now lol. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. He works three jobs so I can do what makes me happy, he supports me, he speaks life into me, he encourages me, he foots the bill lol, none of what I do would be possible without him behind me.
