Meet Jenn Obiyor | Entrepreneur & Business Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Obiyor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business when a friend of mine told me I look like I do hair. I already was switching my hairstyles up frequently at the time, and I knew I didn’t want to actually do hair, but selling it I knew I could do. Before this I was working at Jack’s which is a hamburger spot in my hometown. I absolutely hated working there. I did not like being told what to do, when to wake up, when I could go on break and last but you know not least, cleaning the bathrooms lol. I knew I had to become my own boss. I didn’t want to work for anybody ever again in my life. I wanted to put people on MY payroll, and that’s exactly what I’m destined to do.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets my Hair Company apart from others is that all of our wigs and bundles are longer than the given length. My customers love this because they know when they order a 24inch it’ll come off as a 28. I’m proud that I really turned nothing into something, I went from working fast food to becoming the #1 Hair Company in Alabama just at 17 and not ever having to clock in again. It wasn’t easy but it’s possible. My business taught me patience. I always had little to no patience at all, but with my customers I have no choice but to make sure I give out thorough information and answer all questions possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting my hometown Huntsville, Alabama I would first take her to Burritt on the Mountain. My city is known for it’s beautiful landscapes and mountains, so I would definitely take her on top to see a view of the city and all the hidden waterfalls. Wings happen to be my favorite food, so to eat I would have to take her to 708 which is a Bar and Grille. It can be a party going on and people will come in simply just for the food, After Eating we would have to hit BridgeStreet and watch a movie. Bridgestreet is an outside mall with a movie theatre, resturants, stores, arcades and more!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give my shout-out to Katherine Jackson. Katherine was my very first customer to purchase hair from me. Before I started my business I was shy, closed off and I didn’t talk to everybody. So when I was launching my business one of the things I was scared about was getting clientele. I didn’t let that stop me though I launched anyways and promoted my business faithfully. Katherine was a stranger to me, but she still sent me her hard earned money, and trusted me even with no website. That’s something I’ll remember and cherish forever.
