We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was that I wanted to leave something of value behind for my kids and future grandkids. That, plus the fact that I never found “my place” in the workforce. Any job id ever worked felt odd to me no matter how much experience I had. I wanted to do something that felt more ME.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always considered myself an artist. I took up commercial art for 4 years in high-school and have always had an intense appreciation for it. I also love interior design. My artistic background is what helps me in business today with cake decorating. My appreciation for art, and colors helps with my creativity as a baker, and cake decorator. The road has definitely not been easy. When I began my business, it started as just a hobby but quickly grew into what it is today because little did I know, how many people were in need of my craft. I don’t just cater to vegans, but also those who have allergies to ingredients I do not use in my desserts. The unexpected growth has definitely pushed me to want to reach my fullest potential as an artist and entrepreneur. It’s inspired me to become the woman I’d only ever dreamed of becoming. I want the world to know that outside of growth in my business, my own personal growth and development is one of the most important things to me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely have to visit Falls Park in downtown Greenville first! It’s what won me over on the decision to move to Greenville. And a place that is sure to provide amazing mountain views is Paris Mountain. I’m Vegan, so of course we would have to hit up some of the best vegan spots here in Greenville to eat which would be The Herbal Farmercy and The Naked Vegan. And I’ve yet to visit but I hear amazing things about an amazing live jazz music spot called Blues Boulevard Jazz in downtown Greenville!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Christopher Miller, who began as my personal trainer and quickly became a close friend, has been my number one supporter and motivator throughout the course of my entrepreneurship. He’s consistently pushing me past my comfort zones and always inspiring me to reach my fullest potential in business.
