Meet Jehan Muhammad | The Hollywood Hijabi

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jehan Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a free spirit and I’m very spontaneous. I go with the flow and that’s how I’ve been my whole life. If my inner self tells me to write a script, then I do that. If it tells me to write a song and make a music video, then I do that. I think people put too many restrictions and constraints on everything including themselves. There really are no rules to creating and self expression. If you want to just do music then you can just do that. If you want to act then you can do that too. A lot of people do both and there’s nothing wrong with that. Wherever my creativity and free spirit takes me is where I go and what I do. I may or may not make another album, I don’t know yet. I love music a lot so the thought of not making anymore music is very unsettling to me. I’ve really fallen in love with acting though. I love being on set with famous actors, dressing up in costumes, being amongst other actors who are the most hilarious, creative, interesting and down to Earth people I’ve ever met in my life. People that only know me from social media and have never spent any real time with me think that I’m this uptight always serious person when really I’m not. I like to laugh. I like to joke. I like to dance and have fun. I’m the comedian in my family. A lot of people don’t know that about me and never really see that side of me. Now that I’m in a much more peaceful, stress free environment I’m able to show more of that side of my personality to the world. I just want people to know that Muslims are no different than everyone else and for young Muslim girls to know that you don’t have to let your religion come between who you are as a person. You can be whatever you want to be and do all the things you enjoy doing while still being Muslim and not compromising your beliefs,

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting the area, I would like to take them on a movie set to show them behind the scenes of how a movie is made. Not too many people get that privilege in life to go behind the scenes of a box office film and see famous actors in their element, doing their job. Even just being a background actor, you learn so much and it’s mind blowing. For me it became an addiction and a high. I worked on so many different productions in such little time with some of the biggest names in the industry and I learned a lot by just being on set and behind the scenes. As far as food is concerned, I would take them to Murray’s in A Hurry pizza spot. It’s one of the few places that I can eat pepperoni and sausage pizza at because it’s owned by Muslims and everything is halal.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I just want to shout out all the casting agencies in Atlanta for allowing me to be a part of such a great and awesome community of creatives, actors, directors, etc. here in Atlanta which has now become what we know as Hollywood, No one ever told me no.
