We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeff, is there something you believe many others might not?
One piece of conventional advice I don’t agree with is focus on one thing and work that until it’s successful. I disagree. Some of us have the bandwidth to do multiple things with the same level of commitment & dedication. Why can’t I work on my 6 figure career & my growing small business?! The answer is I/you can! I know that b/c I did it!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So I am a musician/music director/producer. I’ve played for artists like Mario, Ryan Leslie, & Tinashe. I am currently producing an album for Love & HipHop’s Moniece Slaughter.
It wasn’t easy to get to this point in my musical career. It took a lot of years of just “staying the course”. I didn’t know anyone who could possibly point me in the right direction. But, once someone who was connected in the industry finally saw what I could do, they gave me an opportunity and I like to think that I capitalized on that.
Our biggest obstacle to achieving what we want is ourselves. If we can master our mind we can master our personal universe.
The world needs to know that I don’t have any limitations. I can do whatever I put my mind to – and I want to inspire as many people as possible to ascribe to that way of thinking.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, if my bestfriend flew in town on Monday – we would have to hit the “Skydweller Rooftop Party” curated by one of my friends I mentioned earlier,. The vibes are urban chic. The Dj shares the stage with a musician (usually a drummer or saxophonist) contracted by yours truly. This draws ppl from all over the DMV.
Tuesday, we would go to a poetry slam/kick back Called “Love Jones” curated by myself and my friend I just mentioned. This is a turn down for those who want to go out but aren’t big fans of parties. We could listen to a great dj, hear some spoken word, shoot pool sip Moscow mules and smoke some hookah!
Wednesday we would go to “Bmore Vegas” and enjoy dinner and Las Vegas style show complete with fire dancers, stilt walkers, and magicians. Curated by (you guessed it) Me!
Thursday we would take a break and just chill downtown by the harbor in a part of the city called Fells Point. Lots of cool little dive bars to check out and great seafood to eat.
Friday- we are hanging out at “The Civil” to attend @__thevibe – an industry standard open mic, where some of the best undiscovered talent in the area jump on stage with an accomplished professional band and sing to about a hundred or so enthusiastic dining patrons. Want to know who created and curated this event? Me! LOL
Saturday – we would have to hang out at the Sandlot, a man made beach off of the harbor that features a line of food & beer trucks., giant tic tac toe boards, volley ball nets and more! A really cool time!!!
On Sunday – we’re going to my buddy’s brunch in the city then shoot down to georgetown in DC to eat some seafood on the water..
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man, there are so many people who inspire me. I could be here all day – but I would have to shoutout my family and close friends. I have some brilliant business owners in my family that I glean from, constantly. I’ve learned how to move from my dad, brother and cousins.
My dad, my younger brother & a few very close friends are my counsel. I run most of my ideas and thoughts by them and they give it to me straight. I don’t always listen LOL but 99% of the time their words were what I needed to hear.
