We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeanie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeanie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I grew up in a very crafty household. My mother baked, sewed & etc. (she still does). I took after her baking skills. I always loved watching her bake and make birthday cakes. I started making them myself a little for family members when I was in high school. Over time I taught myself so much on new and advanced decorating skills, from making sugar flowers, to big tiered wedding cakes and out the ordinary sculpted cakes. I decided that I wanted to make a full time career out of it after trying out different jobs for a few years. I just liked the idea of being my own boss and making pretty and yummy cakes!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My quality of work. Not only do my cakes look good, but tastes very yummy too! I am one who unfortunately worries what people will say lol, so I make sure my cakes leave my studio well structured, pretty, what the client wants, and and most importantly a delicious moist (worst word ever haha) cake! It has not been easy to get where I am today but constantly pushing myself to do better. Again got to where I am through being self taught, trial and error and learning from my mom.

I have learned so much about owing my own business, learning my craft and learning and realizing how much people love me! Now that I have my baby girl, it has become an even bigger challenge, but I am learning more now how to be a mom and cake artist and plus, I get to bring her to work with me!

As far as my brand.. although I have loved creating cakes for all occasions, my main focus is wedding cakes! A wedding cake is one of the biggest focal points on your wedding day. I believe your cake should be a very beautiful, unique, delicious and memorable. I am here for all the challenges and love when couples leave the design up to me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say locally (I’m just out of small town hartsville sc), we would just just go for a ride/cruise around town in my husbands cobra mustang or his classic Ford galaxie (one day I’ll have my own mustang again haha) Stop by sonic for a slush or ice cream. Maybe go to the drag strip or a car show lol. There are very many yummy restaurants in hartsville for brunch we would go to The Rooster 136! And get some delicious chicken salad from Hidden treasures catering! Although not very local, just over an hour from me, we would have to go to my favorite restaurant in which is in Charlotte NC, Futo Buta, they have the BEST ramen! I like to travel, Asheville NC and surrounding areas is another favorite and there are many things I like to do there! We would shop in downtown, go to French broad chocolate, go hiking, and sight seeing!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people, books and etc that I would love to have some recognition. I’ll just name a few. My mom, dad and husband. They have supported me and pushed me and helped big time through all the good, bad and hard work it involves. There are lots of famous/big time cake artists that inspire me and makes me push myself to try more advanced work.
