We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmine Monroe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazmine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was simply me asking myself, what do you really want to do in life as a long term goal , something fun but still making a good amount of money doing it. I worked in retail since I was 18 years old, so during my time working at Walmart when I was 23, I realized that retail was something that I just didn’t really enjoy doing anymore, long hours on my feet and unprofessional employees. I had gotten a little overwhelmed, so I quickly thought of something I can do without dealing with unprofessional employees and something I enjoy doing, and one thing I knew that made me feel good and had fun doing was my makeup everyday before work. Customers at my job always complimented me on my face and continuously told me that I was in the wrong field of work because I was so talented . So I took their advice , and one day I told myself this is what I am going to do , become an Atlanta Makeup Artist and I’m so happy to have taken that step because it has really been a great experience for me thus far.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is that I always view my work in its own lane, like I don’t compare my work to other artist because I’m not trying to be the same as them. A lot of makeup artist are in competition these days , but I just feel like you do your work your way and that’s it. That is what will make you stand out more, I never been the type to blend in with others . Only thing I like to blend is the makeup on my clients face . I got to where I am today in my business by full on dedication and lots of hard work. I literally pushed myself everyday to better myself. I had support from friends and family , even strangers and that is something I am forever grateful for. It was not easy but it work worth the ups and downs . I wanted to give up at times but I remembered that I’m a queen and we don’t give up, we thrive! Some lessons that I’ve learned along the way is that everyone isn’t going to support you, you will have haters that are jealous of what you’re accomplishing, you will have people come into your world acting as if they are supporting you but they are using you for the time being to make them look better. I’ve learned to not trust everyone because some people have ill intentions and that’s not something I want to affiliate myself with. I just want the world to know that you can do whatever you put your mind to, go for your dreams , make money but have fun doing it . I am here to make all of my fellow beautiful ladies feel even more beautiful for whatever occasions. I love seeing my clients reactions and how they are feeling themselves on another level , it makes me happy that I can satisfy their expectations.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It is literally so many places in Atlanta to go to , but some places I would recommend is Cheesecake Factory or Copelands restaurants, it’s always the bomb to me, top golf, piedmont park ,the different festivals in the city area , centennial park , ride scooters or bikes around the city belt line, Blue Martini, Harold’s Chicken , Cru lounge, comedy shows, the list goes on. It’s plenty to do here .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So a few MUA influences that I had coming up in this field are Ms. Aaliyahjay , James Charles, and Nikkietutorials. I’m a self taught MUA , so I learned how to do my own full face makeup by watching their YouTube videos every day until I felt that I got everything good enough. I literally did a different look on my face every single day. I was truly dedicated to becoming a great makeup artist in the makeup world .
