We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmin Curney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazmin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
One day, my cousins mentioned planning a surprise Anniversary party for their parents. With my assistance, the event was a success. I also remember planning my cousins birthday/going away party, which turned out perfect. I realized that this was becoming a hobby that I wanted to turn into a business! Five months later, Cree-ative Events was established.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My business name is Cree-ative Events and I am the founder and owner.
‘Cree-ative’ comes from my middle name ‘Cree’. I plan all types of events BUT I can say that I am the best of the best when it comes to crate set-ups! I’ve done a total of 10 within a year. Looking to double that this year! I am very excited to see how my business will continue to grow during year 2! I can’t wait for it to be nationwide! 🙂

What you are most proud of or excited about?
I am most proud of myself and how I’ve become so dedicated and successful with my business. I established Cree-ative Events in May of 2019. My first major event was The Full Moon wedding in July 2019, which was coordinated in 5 months – while I worked a full time AND part time job. I received so much positive feedback. I knew then if I could pull of a wedding/reception for 100 people (by myself), I could do anything!!!!!!
How did you get to where you are today professionally?
To get where I am today, my peers and I would network. Many of my new clients were referred to me by family/friends. It really makes me happy to know that my work speaks for itself in a positive light where people want to utilize my services.
Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
It was not easy to get where I am at all! I needed to keep myself motivated. In the beginning, it was hard because I felt like no one would book me due to the fact I was just starting. I had nothing to show. I decided, at the very last minute, to do a crate set-up last year for my birthday at Piedmont Park. After that, crate set-ups were taking over my calendar and Piedmont Park became my second home. I still have people who refer to that set-up as the reason they’ve contacted me.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I would love for the world to know that Cree-ative Events is my baby and a major apart of my life. I am working so hard to expand it and to make my name worldwide. I just booked my first out-of-town event that I am SO excited about. I cannot wait to share the experience with my clients, friends and family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends and I love a good time and good eats so I would definitely show them to the best food spots. A couple of areas to visit are: Ponce City Market, Krog Street and Virginia Highlands. All have so many restaurants to try and I love to eat!

Outside of food, one place I love to visit a few times of the year is The High Arts Museum. They always have the best exhibits and each are very informative. You can take the best pictures in there too (lol).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom! She’s been there since day one, before day one! Definitely my number supporter and always there when I need her! Shoutout to one of my best friends/big sister Christine as well. She helps me with my set-ups whenever I need her! So appreciative of that!
