We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Lotus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jay, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My mind has been constantly flowing with ideas for as long as I can remember. I’ve been using creative outlets since I was a kid, so I naturally fell into the arts. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for alternative types of music, cinema, comedy, and fashion.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make music to bring people together. This is my gift. I don’t have to be the flashiest in the room to be satisfied. The value I bring to the scene lays in creating authentically, and connecting with individuals. In my first year as an artist, I struggled with finding likeminded peers. I wasn’t able to provide any value without other people. After meeting and collaborating with a variety of talented musicians, I found my strength. My brand represents blooming through adversity, hence the “Lotus”. Surrounding myself with good people allows me to move past my flaws and imperfections. I believe this is essential for the creative process. I’m in this for the journey. The late night studio sessions. The big crowds. The small ones. The magic.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born and raised in Scranton, PA. So, I know the good spots for sure. One of my favorite spots to eat is Chef Von & Mom’s. Best burger I’ve ever had. I’d definitely have to visit the V-spot for a drink. That’s one of the better bars around here for sure. Then I’d probably head to the Keystone Stage for a good music show, or some live comedy. Depending on the time of year, we could go skiing up at Montage Mountain. If it’s summertime, I love hitting the Circle Drive-in up for a movie.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My journey wouldn’t be possible with my mom. She’s supported me 100% in everything I’ve ever been interested in. I’m eternally grateful for the love and wisdom she offers anyone around her. I have yet to meet someone else that cares for other as gracefully as she can. If you’re reading this thank you mom, I love you.
