We had the good fortune of connecting with Jawun Ahmud and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jawun, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
When life gets weird I isolate and create, it’s always been the perfect escape tactic that brings me instant comfort. But aside from work I’ve established a daily routine for myself that I’m quite proud of. I do hot yoga, sound baths, and small day trips weekly. We have to adopt activities that aid in self love and nourishment, knowing that I’m devoting that time to my personal development makes me happy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My mother use to always ask my barber cut my hair super short, and I hated it. When I was old enough to pick my own style I grew it out without knowing how to care for it properly. I created a YouTube channel testing out different styles and regimens and accumulated thousands of viewers along with a few viral moments. I’ve worked with over 50 hair companies on campaigns, over this time span I developed a deep skill set on ingredients and how things were formulated. I started to fully dissect these products and grew to learn how bad certain ingredients were and dropped out of majority of my contracts. Poor formulations was something I couldn’t stand behind, and I later found out how they enabled the hair struggles I was dealing with at the time like excessive shedding and breakage due to an overuse of butters and oils. I made the decision to create single formulations for my hair. I purchased single and eco-driven ingredients to test out one by one, not noticing that I was generating a love for formulating. I published my first leave-in conditioner brought to you by Modern Ahmud, my new hair company. Handmade in Augusta, Georgia. All ingredients and supplies are plant deprived and sourced in USA, I’m proud to say that.

My other company is A.A, I created Ahmud Apparel as an outlet for my sketches and virtual designs, I use to struggle with shopping for clothing and accessories, I was learning my personal style and I hated everything. In a way I was forced to produce these imaginations which lead me into learning how to sew and outsource the rarest fabrics or stones for jewelry and bags. . I’m very intentional when it comes to my designs, some of them are inspired by the objects around me like building architecture and even home decor.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friends and I love to visit our farmers market on Saturday mornings. We’d later do lunch at Pho-Ramen’L, I’m currently obsessed with their bulgogi bao buns. After we’d take a stroll on broad street and stop by Westbou’s art gallery to check out the latest exhibit, maybe end the day with a hot yoga session? 🙂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started creating Youtube videos in high school and accumulated 77,000 subscribers. Shoutout to those individuals that took the time out to check out a random boy rambling about hair products. I would’ve never thought I’d accumulate so many friends from it, we actually talk and I follow so many of them. The encouragement and energy we exchange and bond over is insane, shoutout to my mf day wuns.
