We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasper Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasper, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Starting your own business isn’t for the week but I think everyone should consider it because it’s the quickest way to get “free”. Self sufficiency is the way and we should focus on “doing for self”. That way we can have control of our lives and schedules to do for our families and communities what’s needed of us.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is similar to what sets them apart from me. My unique experiences in life, struggles and triumphs, the information I’ve learned over time all contributes to my art. There’s nothing else like it because it’s directly from my heart and there’s only one “me” in this world. I’m most excited about continuing to develop myself and art to reach new levels. I got where I am so far through consistency and consistently putting myself out there. It was difficult at times but it’s getting easier. I overcome that challenge by taking my emotions out of it and doing what needed to be done. The one lesson that sticks out most is “Be Yourself” in whatever you do and create. That helps you create a support systems that truly loves you and what you produce. I want the world to know that my brand is dedicated to uplifting the people who encounter me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would bring my friend to Dames Chicken and Waffles to eat, Mozzies and Nzingas as well. I’m interested in being outdoors so Crabtree lake is a place I would go, I would drop by my families farm to see my cows and maybe drop by a Durham Bulls game before they head out. We would have to take a trip to the studio of course but I don’t get out too often so I’m not to hop on what’s what in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to the Book “Message To The Blackman in America” written by The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad
