Meet Jasmine Jones | Master MUA, Beauty Education & Training Specialist, & Owner of JRA•MUA, Co-Owner of J. Studios

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Why did I choose a creative career? I would say that it chose me. I never imagined I’d be a makeup artist. Initially, makeup was a personal hobby I picked up during college. YouTube tutorials, & social media beauty groups were becoming a thing, so I found a lot of inspiration and new ways to channel my creativity with makeup. As time progressed, family & close friends would ask me to do their makeup, and later refer me to others. I then developed a passion for the artistry aspect of makeup and began training alongside local artists in my artists in my area. Fast forward to present day, I’m a full time beauty professional, with a vast of expertise in bridal, editorial, film, & every day makeup artistry, as well as, beauty education., & co•owner of my own beauty studio.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At JRA•MUA, we specialize in many different avenues of makeup artistry. In doing so, I’m continuously learning new ways to maximize my skills & tap into my creativity. It’s this initiative that places JRA in a league of its own. Looking back into my career in the “early stages”, I’m so amazed how much my brand has grown. I’ve had the luxury of working alongside some of the most talented creatives, both locally & nationally, as well as, have my work featured in quite a few publications and syndicated outlets, including Ebony, Birmingham Times, CBS, Al.com. It’s truly humbling and so fulfilling to be doing what I love, & I don’t take it for granted. I’ve always said, It’s deeper than makeup for me. Of course, this road has not been easy! Entrepreneurship requires a great deal of discipline, sacrifice, & hard work. I’ve learned to always be teachable & true to self. The fact that I absolutely love what I do makes is soo worth every minute, hour, & day put into building my brand. I’m always optimistic, and excited about what’s to come. This is only the beginning for JRA. SLAY-tuned!
One of my favorite places to grab lunch & brain storm is Bizzare: The Coffee Bar. For live music & great drinks, The Plum Bar, Dirty Ash’s Urban Lounge, Aces, & Perfect Note. If you’re a foodie like me, hidden gems like The Lobby has the best grilled steaks in town, 4 Season’s Sports Bar & Grill for wings & okra, or you could could catch up with some our city’s favorite food trucks, Urban Smoke, Encore Rouge, Why Not Rhinos?, & Simone’s Kitchen.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Whew! There a soo many people whom have contributed to the success of my brand. First, God, whom through all things are possible. My family. I don’t know where I would be without their unconditional love & support. My children, Amare’, Aa’Liyah, & Aiden. They are the motivating force behind everything I do. My business partner, Janina Steele! Thank you for embarking on this journey with me. To my close friends, I love & appreciate you more than you know. To every collaborative partner & client, thank you for the continuous support & consideration! I am beyond grateful to blessed with good company.
